Chapter 39 - The Ancestor of All Pokémon!!

Kanto Region.

Viridian Forest was a primordial forest spanning both Kanto and Johto.

Deep beneath the forest floor, the underground had been completely hollowed out.

In its place stood a colossal base filled with futuristic technology.

And yet—

the Kanto League knew absolutely nothing about it.

Inside the base's main control room, the lighting was dim. A massive screen glowed in the darkness, its fluorescent light the only source of illumination in the entire chamber.

Tap… tap-tap…

A faint sound echoed through the room.

In front of the giant screen sat a large executive chair, and in that chair was a middle-aged man with a stern expression.

At his feet lay a large feline Pokémon with a red gem set in its forehead.

It was Persian, the evolved form of Meowth.

Tap… tap-tap…

The man's fingers rhythmically tapped against the chair's armrest.

His name was Giovanni.

The leader of the evil organization—

Team Rocket.

Creak—

The mechanical door opened.

A man dressed in red, with an "R" emblazoned on his collar, walked in.

"Boss."

The chair turned around.

Giovanni looked at the newcomer and said flatly, "What is it?"

"A few hours ago, all executives of the Hunter Organization went to Alamos Town to capture Darkrai, but they were completely wiped out."

Giovanni lifted his eyes slightly, utterly unconcerned about the Hunter Organization's fate. "If I remember correctly, under our manipulation, Experiment III was deliberately allowed to be captured by them."

"Yes, Boss. And under our guidance, they did indeed make a move on Darkrai."

"How did III perform against a real divine beast? What do the experimental data show?" Giovanni asked.

This had been an experiment.

They wanted to know how Experiment III would perform against a genuine divine beast.

"It was instantly killed by Darkrai. The genes in its body collapsed, and it died on the spot. Just as we predicted, the endurance of the test subject was poor. Especially once it endured an attack above its own level, its genetic chain disintegrated."

"I see."

Giovanni waved his hand, and the man withdrew. The room fell silent once more.

Giovanni sank into thought.

Instantly killed by Darkrai…

Experiment III had been the most perfect genetic creation so far.

Inside it were the genes of ten other Fire-type Pokémon, as well as the genes of Moltres.

The reason Fearow had been chosen as the host was because its genes were the most compatible with those Pokémon and had the highest tolerance for Moltres's genetic material.

And yet, it still wasn't enough.

The body of an ordinary Pokémon simply could not contain the genes of a divine beast.

Every test subject had died the moment the genes were grafted onto it, their genetic chains collapsing instantly.

Experiment III had been the only survivor.

But its flaw was severe.

The moment it suffered a powerful enough attack, its genes would disintegrate.

Giovanni's greatest dream—

was to create a divine beast.

An artificial divine beast!!!

At the very least, it couldn't be weaker than the divine beasts ranked in the Top 10 Strongest Divine Beasts.

Right now, he was irritated.

His dream seemed to have hit a bottleneck.

How could he make different Pokémon genes coexist?

How could he make them compatible instead of conflicting?

To solve this problem, the greatest obstacle was genetic conflict.

Every species was an independent lifeform, and every species had different genes.

And divine beast genes—

ordinary Pokémon simply could not bear them.

Feeling annoyed, Giovanni opened the Dimensional Platform.

Then he noticed the ranking video had updated.

He immediately clicked in.

Every divine beast featured in those ranking videos stirred his blood.

If he could create one powerful enough to make that list—

then even death would hold no regrets.

The moment the video updated, beings across the myriad dimensions all clicked in at once.

The number of viewers was climbing by the hundreds of millions.

"It's here, it's finally here! A mortal body that rivals the gods—could this one actually be a human?"

"I'm dying to know—which divine beast is stronger than Giratina?!"

Whether in the Pokémon world or the countless other dimensions, everyone was desperate to find out who this TOP 4 was—

this being with a mortal body that rivaled the gods.

The video began to play.

In the pitch-black screen, a pale pink Pokémon suddenly appeared before everyone's eyes.

It was in the boundless cosmos.

On top of a meteor floated a pale pink Pokémon, curled up asleep, like a little pink kitten.

It woke up and yawned, still drowsy. Then it floated upright, its tiny arms drooping, its tail raised high.

Then it saw the blue planet.

Tilting its head, it flew down toward it.

That adorably foolish scene instantly melted the hearts of countless women across the dimensions.

"So cute! I want a pet like that so badly!!!" In One Piece, on Amazon Lily, Boa Hancock rubbed her legs together. "How can there be a divine beast cuter than me?"

"Ahhh, I want one too! It'd be perfect as a summon." In the Naruto world, Sakura Haruno was grinning like an auntie.

"S-So cute." In the Inuyasha world, Kagome Higurashi's eyes lit up.

"Why is it so cute while you're not cute at all!" In the Dragon Ball world, Bulma punched Oolong on the head.

The contrast was simply too great.

The divine beasts ranked before had all been enormous, ferocious, and terrifying—enough to make children stop crying at night.

Men and women always focused on different things.

At first glance, the male viewers across the dimensions were rather disappointed.

"No way, TOP 4 is this pink kitten?" On Whitebeard's ship, Marco scratched his head. "Feels like I could punch it to death."

"Natsu, it kinda looks like you, Happy. It looks so weak." In Fairy Tail, Natsu said to the blue Exceed beside him.

"That really is strange. Could this actually be the protagonist of TOP 4?" In Re:Zero, Roswaal, the frontier count of the Kingdom of Lugunica, said in disbelief.

Compared to the other worlds—

the Pokémon researchers in the Pokémon world were all momentarily stunned.

They knew this Pokémon—

but at the same time, they really didn't.

"Mew!"

They only knew its name.

Its murals could be found in many human ruins from the ancient era.

It was certainly a divine beast.

But as for what abilities it possessed, what type it was—

no one knew.

Those ancient ruins contained only murals, with no detailed records of Mew's deeds or powers.

The video continued.

A deep, magnetic narration sounded.

[This Pokémon is called Mew, a first-tier divine beast, a being born together with heaven and earth—earlier even than Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina]

[Mew is peace-loving by nature and somewhat mischievous]

[What it likes most is finding a quiet place to sleep]

[Because divine beast battles occasionally break out in the main world—especially between Groudon and Kyogre—and because Mew's attempts to stop them always fail and they're too noisy, it often goes to sleep on meteors instead]

[This time, when it woke up, it discovered that the main world had become full of life and that all kinds of Pokémon had already been born]

[Oh, and one more thing—Mew is known as the Ancestor of Pokémon]

[It can use the moves of all Pokémon of every type, and within its body lie the genetic codes of all Pokémon]

!!!!!

In the Pokémon world, every Trainer felt as though their understanding of the world had just collapsed.

This tiny thing—

this kitten-like little creature—

had been born even earlier than Giratina?

The Ancestor of Pokémon??

It possessed the genetic code of all Pokémon?!
