Chapter 12 - The Neon Anarchy

The transition from the salt spray of the ocean to the smog of the city was jarring. Han-Jun stood on the rooftop of a skyscraper in Seoul, overlooking a city that was burning from the inside out.

Below him, the streets were a war zone. This wasn't just "bullying" anymore. Thousands of students, all wearing the black armbands of the Rebellion, were clashing with riot police and Aegis private security. The "Designated Bully" protocol had backfired: the government had trained monsters, and now the monsters had turned on their masters.

"The world is changing, isn't it?"

Han-Jun turned. The older Han-Seol—the one from the rescue pod—was standing by the ledge, his long coat fluttering in the wind. He looked tired, his face covered in scars that the "Chimera" boy didn't have.

"You still haven't told me who you really are," Han-Jun said, his voice cold. His body was a map of bandages, his "Zero-State" exhausted.

"I'm the original 'Failure'," the man said, looking at his own hands. "Three years ago, when the First Apex 'killed' me, he actually sent me to a black site in Europe. They used me to test the Time-Dilation Serum. I spent ten years in a sensory deprivation tank that felt like a decade, but only three years passed out here. Physically, I'm thirty. Mentally... I'm a ghost."

Analysis: Heart Rate 65 BPM. Subject: Han-Seol (Original). Power Level: [UNDETECTABLE].

"Why did you bring me here?" Han-Jun asked.

"Because the First Apex didn't die in that ocean, Han-Jun. He's a cockroach. He's already regrouping in the Sector Zero—the underground city beneath the capital. And he has a new toy. Something called the Hive Mind Protocol."

The Hive Mind

As if on cue, every electronic billboard in the city flickered. The face of the Director—now looking more like a cyborg than a man—appeared.

"Attention Citizens. Due to the student uprising, the Aegis System is now in 'Absolute Control' mode. All registered students: Prepare for Synchronization."

Suddenly, the rebels in the streets stopped fighting. Thousands of teenagers froze at the same time. Their eyes turned a glowing, digital red—the same color as the "Red Zone."

"What are they doing?" Han-Jun asked, leaning over the ledge.

"They're being hacked," Han-Seol hissed. "The Aegis chips in their necks... the Director is turning them into a literal army of drones. They won't feel pain, they won't feel fear, and they'll kill anyone who isn't 'synchronized'."

Below, the students began to move in perfect, robotic unison. They didn't use individual martial arts; they moved like a swarm of ants, overwhelming the riot police with sheer, coordinated numbers.

"We have to stop the signal," Han-Jun said, his fists clenching.

"There's only one way," Han-Seol said, reaching into his coat and pulling out a tablet. "The Black Key the First Apex gave you. It's the master override for the Hive Mind. But it's not a digital key. It's a Biological Component."

The Vault of the First

They descended into the basement of a nondescript office building—the secret entrance to the First Apex's private vault.

The door was a massive slab of tungsten. Han-Jun stepped forward and held the Black Key. It wasn't a key for a lock; it was a needle.

"It needs your blood, Han-Jun," Han-Seol warned. "The vault only opens for a 100% genetic match of the Bloodline."

Han-Jun didn't hesitate. He pressed his thumb onto the needle.

Verification: DNA Confirmed. Access Granted: Alpha-Zero.

The vault hissed open, revealing a room filled with... nothing. No gold, no weapons, no computers. Just a single glass tube in the center of the room.

Inside the tube was a human heart, suspended in a blue liquid. It was beating slowly, rhythmically.

"Is that...?" Han-Jun started.

"That's the First Apex's real heart," Han-Seol whispered, his voice trembling with awe and disgust. "He replaced his own heart with a mechanical turbine to achieve the 2000 Power Level. This is his only weakness. If we destroy this, the Hive Mind signal dies. But if we do... he'll know exactly where we are."

Suddenly, the walls of the vault began to glow. A holographic projection of the First Apex appeared, looking directly at Han-Jun.

"I knew you'd find it," the projection said. "The 'Black Key' wasn't a gift. It was a Homming Beacon."

The Siege of Sector Zero

The ceiling of the vault exploded.

Four figures dropped from the hole. They weren't students. They were the Final Four Apices—the ones who had stayed by the Director's side. They were giants, their bodies modified with cybernetic limbs and glowing Aegis armor.

1. THE TITAN (Power Level: 1900)

2. THE PHANTOM (Power Level: 1850)

3. THE SIREN (Power Level: 1800)

4. THE BUTCHER (Power Level: 1950)

"Kill them," the projection commanded. "And bring me my heart."

Han-Jun stepped in front of the glass tube. He was still injured, his "Zero-State" was dangerous to use, and he was outnumbered.

"Seol, get So-Mi and the Rebels," Han-Jun said, his eyes beginning to glow with a faint, white light. "I'll hold them here."

"You'll die, Han-Jun! There are four of them!"

"I've died once already this week," Han-Jun growled, his muscles beginning to vibrate with "Kinetic Resonance." "I'm starting to get used to it."

Han-Jun charges the four Apices. He takes a brutal hit from The Titan that sends him crashing into the glass tube.

The glass cracks. The blue liquid begins to leak.

The First Apex's heart begins to beat faster, out of sync. In the city above, the Hive Mind students begin to scream as the signal becomes distorted.

But as Han-Jun stands up, he realizes something horrifying. The blue liquid isn't just a preservative. It's a Neuro-Toxic Gas.

The vault is sealing itself.

Han-Jun is trapped inside with the four strongest killers in the world, while a lethal gas fills the room. His only hope is to destroy the heart, but doing so might trigger the island-wide self-destruct mechanism linked to the First Apex's life force.
