Chapter 159: Remnants of the Star Religious Group, Uncontrolled Killing Intent
A pungent musty odor filled the abandoned air raid shelter.
Along with it came the nauseating residue of Cursed Energy, thick enough to cling to the throat.
After passing through a long, pitch black corridor, Yami and Suguru Geto finally reached the secret underground meeting place.
Dim candlelight flickered across the vast chamber. The shadows on the walls stretched long and distorted, swaying like something alive.
Hundreds of remnants from the Star Religious Group had gathered here.
They wore identical white robes and knelt densely across the cold, damp concrete floor, their heads lowered like devout believers.
In front of them stood a crude altar built from broken stone, wooden planks, and blood stained cloth.
Crouched on top of that altar was an ugly, swollen Cursed Spirit.
Semi Grade 1.
Its body was massive and covered in pustule like tumors. Within those bulging masses, countless twisted human faces struggled and wailed, their expressions frozen between worship, guilt, and fear.
It was a monster born from the Star Religious Group's fanaticism.
Their guilt.
Their fear of the unknown.
Their rotten belief that the death of an innocent girl had been some form of divine judgment.
"Praise the great god!"
"Thank you for sending divine punishment and cleansing that impure Star Plasma Vessel!"
"Please continue to protect us and drive away those hypocritical Jujutsu Sorcerers!"
At the very front, an elder of the group knelt before the altar and shouted absurd prayers until his voice turned hoarse.
The cultists behind him echoed his words in waves of feverish worship.
Then the Cursed Spirit on the altar moved.
Perhaps it had sensed hunger.
A tumor covered tentacle stretched out and grabbed one of the cultists kneeling in the front row.
Crack.
Bones shattered.
The Cursed Spirit dragged the man into a twisted mouth and began chewing.
Blood splattered across the altar.
But the chilling part was that the man being eaten did not scream for help.
Instead, his face twisted with sick ecstasy.
"I have been chosen by god!"
His voice cracked as blood poured from his mouth.
"This is the baptism of divine punishment! I will be purified!"
The surrounding cultists did not stop it.
They did not even flinch.
Instead, they knelt with even greater fervor, their eyes filled with envy and jealousy, as if being devoured by that monster were some holy blessing.
From the shadows, Suguru Geto watched.
His body began to tremble.
He took one step forward without realizing it.
A small stone shifted beneath his shoe.
The sound was faint.
But in the silent chamber, it was enough.
"Who's there?"
The elder at the altar snapped his head around.
His cold gaze immediately locked onto Geto's black Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform.
"A Jujutsu Sorcerer!"
His face twisted with hatred.
"One of the filthy people who tried to protect the Star Plasma Vessel!"
"Unforgivable!"
"How dare you disturb the god's ritual!"
"Kill him!"
"Use his blood to calm the god's anger!"
The cultists erupted.
Hundreds of them surged up like rabid dogs.
There was no fear in them despite watching their own companion get eaten. Instead, their fanaticism grew worse. They grabbed stones, iron rods, broken bricks, anything they could find, and hurled them toward Geto with twisted faces.
Absurd.
Ridiculous.
Disgusting.
Was this what he had been risking his life to protect?
These non sorcerers?
These ignorant, hopeless monkeys?
They had driven an innocent girl to death and felt no guilt.
They had watched a Cursed Spirit devour one of their own and called it a gift from god.
They kept producing new curses through their ugliness, ignorance, and madness.
And now they were raising weapons against the people who protected them.
"If this is how it is…"
A stone struck Geto's forehead.
Blood slid down the side of his face.
He did not dodge.
He only stood there, eyes slowly losing all warmth.
"If these monkeys are the source of all curses…"
His voice was frighteningly flat.
Cold.
Empty.
"Then just kill them all."
The words fell from his mouth almost gently.
"As long as we create a world with only Jujutsu Sorcerers…"
His fingers twitched.
"Wouldn't there be no more curses?"
Boom!
The moment that thought was born, the Cursed Energy Geto had suppressed for an entire year finally erupted.
Black Cursed Energy swept through the underground meeting place like a violent tornado.
The candles were blown out one after another.
The concrete floor cracked beneath his feet.
Geto slowly walked out of the shadows, his eyes indifferent, as if everyone before him had already become corpses.
"Come out."
His voice was quiet.
"Rainbow Dragon."
Roar!
A deafening roar shook the chamber.
From the black vortex of Cursed Energy behind Geto, a massive dragon covered in hard scales rose into the air.
Rainbow Dragon.
Its body crashed against the basement's support pillars, making rubble fall like rain.
"Ahhh!"
"Monster!"
"Help me!"
The same cultists who had worshiped the Cursed Spirit moments earlier finally felt fear.
They screamed.
They shoved one another.
They scattered in every direction like frightened rats.
"Go to hell."
Geto slowly raised his right hand.
His eyes were dead.
"Monkeys."
He was about to give the order.
The order that would push him fully into the abyss.
Then, at the very moment fate was about to derail, a clear sword cry rang through the chaotic underground chamber.
Zing!
The temperature rose at an unreasonable speed.
A dark red sword light tore through the darkness like lightning in the dead of night, brushing past Geto's cheek.
The sword light was fast.
Overbearing.
Hot enough to burn away everything in its path.
"Total Concentration."
A calm voice sounded from the shadows.
"Sun Breathing, First Form."
"Circle Dance."
Rumble!
A perfect dark red flame arc bloomed in midair.
There was no unnecessary explosion.
No wild shockwave.
Only pure destruction and purification condensed into one clean slash.
The Semi Grade 1 Cursed Spirit crouching on the altar did not even have time to scream.
Its massive body evaporated under the dark red blade light.
The crude altar beneath it was cut in half as well, its severed surface glowing red, molten lines flowing like magma from the cut.
The pressure of that sword strike did not stop there.
Its heat and intent pressed down on Rainbow Dragon in midair, forcing the Semi Special Grade Cursed Spirit to release a low, uneasy growl.
It did not dare move forward.
Silence fell over the entire meeting place.
The Star Religious Group members froze in terror.
Geto froze as well.
All of them stared at the slash that had erased the monster they called god.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Steady footsteps came from the darkness.
Yami walked out of the shadows, holding the scorching Shiranui in one hand.
His expression was calm.
He did not look at the trembling cultists.
He walked straight to Geto.
Those deep black eyes carried a rationality that seemed to see through everything.
"Suguru."
Yami slowly raised Shiranui.
Then he placed the hot back of the blade gently against Geto's shoulder.
His voice was not loud.
But in Geto's mind, it rang like a temple bell cutting through fog.
"Your blade is pointed in the wrong direction."
The heat from the back of the blade made Geto shudder.
He stared at Yami.
This man whose strength was unfathomable.
This man who always seemed to see straight through his soul.
Years of belief, accumulated disgust, exhaustion, and the ugliness before his eyes collided violently inside his chest.
Should he release the frustration and despair that were about to split him open?
Or should he draw his blade against the friend standing before him, trying to stop his collapse?
Geto's fingers dug into his palms.
Blood quietly slipped through them.
