Chapter 15 - Chapter 015: When the Crush Gets Crushed

After signing the contract with Shueisha and thanking Ayame, Naruto rushed home. He laid out the paper and pen he had prepared on the table and began mentally calling out to Menma.

"Menma, Menma! The manuscript is approved! The first 20,000 words will be serialized in the magazine!"

"Once the word count hits 100,000, they'll print a collected volume! Let's hurry up and write the rest!"

After being flattered and praised by Kishimoto Hirohiko, Naruto desperately wanted to write 100,000 words immediately. But unfortunately, he couldn't write it himself—he could only rely on Menma.

"I saw everything; no need to repeat it," Menma said from the mindscape. "However, even close brothers keep clear accounts. We need to discuss the revenue."

"Discuss revenue?" Naruto asked, confused. "Can't we just use the money we get?"

Menma scoffed. "I wrote the words. I conceived the plot. And you expect to split the profits after only contributing your body?"

Naruto thought about it. He had a point.

"Fine," he said dejectedly. "How do you want to split it?"

"90/10 split. I get ninety percent, you get ten."

"Ten percent is enough for you to achieve ramen freedom. You can't touch the remaining ninety."

"Huh? Only ten?" Naruto hung his head. "You don't even come out often anyway. What do you need so much money for?"

Menma's voice remained cold. "That's none of your concern. Just say whether you agree or not."

Seeing that Menma had made up his mind, Naruto could only grit his teeth.

"Agreed, agreed. It's your decision. All I need is the freedom to eat ramen—I don't know what to do with more anyway."

[Trust Level: 38%]

The two percent drop wasn't a big deal for Menma. Until it reached 80%, everything was just a castle in the air. No need to worry too much.

"Give me your body back. An afternoon is enough to write the remaining 80,000 words."

With the physical abilities of an Elite Jōnin as a foundation, Menma could write seven or eight words per second. Adding in time for brainstorming, an afternoon was just right.

"Okay!" Naruto immediately relinquished control.

The sound of a pencil scratching against paper filled the room. Evening arrived quickly. As the last word fell, Menma stopped writing; control of the body returned. Writing all afternoon had left him feeling mentally exhausted.

"Finished so quickly?" Naruto asked as he regained control, looking utterly unsatisfied. "I haven't even had enough yet..."

Menma ignored him, closing his eyes to rest in his mental space.

After tidying up the thick stack of manuscripts, Naruto headed toward Ichiraku Ramen. He planned to have dinner there and show the manuscripts to Ayame—after all, he'd promised to do that at noon.

---

The next day, Naruto arrived at the Hokage's Office after sleeping in. Although he'd received his headband after passing the graduation exam, he still needed to have his photo taken and register before officially becoming a genin of Konoha. The registration and photo session only lasted one day, with the new generation of genin due to gather for class assignments the following day.

Because there was only one day, many people were queuing for photos and registration. But that didn't stop Naruto—just like in the original story—from spending three hours painting his face a huge mess. He even called it "the art of photography."

The result, of course, was a scolding from Hiruzen Sarutobi and a demand for a retake.

Then Konohamaru appeared and started pestering Naruto. What happened next was pretty much the same as the original story: Naruto taught Konohamaru the Sexy Jutsu and his ninja way, forming a bond. He even used the Harem Technique to defeat Ebisu, who wore small sunglasses.

That night, he continued writing his novel while Menma controlled his body.

---

The next morning, Naruto got up early instead of sleeping in, on account of the class assignments. Upon arriving at the Ninja Academy, he went straight to his seat. The classroom was already quite full, but the most conspicuous person was Sasuke Uchiha, radiating a low-key aura with a gloomy face. Especially after seeing Naruto, his gloom practically overflowed.

Clearly, Sasuke still couldn't accept that Naruto was better than him.

"You annoying brat who only knows how to act cool!" Naruto muttered.

He didn't understand Sasuke's expression, assuming the Uchiha was just putting on a show of aloofness again. Hearing Naruto's mutterings, Sasuke's gloomy face instantly darkened. However, he didn't retaliate with his usual sarcastic remarks—he simply turned his head away, expression composed.

Seeing that Sasuke wasn't provoking him, Naruto didn't tease him further. Instead, he lay on his desk, thinking about the class assignments.

I wish I could be in the same class as Sakura Haruno. Even if I can't, I don't want to be in the same class as that annoying Sasuke Uchiha. Besides, I'm not the worst student anymore—I'm number one now. Sakura should start to like me, right...

Just then, Sakura Haruno arrived. Watching her walk toward him, Naruto grinned foolishly, thinking his dream had come true. Unfortunately, Sakura Haruno walked past him, going straight to Sasuke's side and showering him with attention.

"That annoying Sasuke! What's so good about him that Sakura likes him?!"

Just as Naruto was about to pick a fight with Sasuke, Iruka Umino walked in from outside. The noisy classroom quieted after he entered.

"From now on, you're all independent ninjas..." After giving his usual educational speech, Iruka Umino picked up the list in his hand. "Next, the class assignments will be announced."

"Team 7: Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki, and Sasuke Uchiha."

"Team 8: Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, and Kiba Inuzuka."

"Team 10: Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi, and Ino Yamanaka."

Some were happy, some were sad; gasps and groans echoed from below.

Meanwhile, back at the Hokage's Office— Kakashi Hatake, with deadpan eyes, held a copy of Make-Out Paradise. Kurenai Yuhi, with her impressive figure and fishnet outfit, stood there. Asuma Sarutobi, with a full beard and an air of dejection, stood there. The three of them stood before Hiruzen Sarutobi's desk, staring at the crystal ball on it—which displayed a picture of Naruto's classroom.

After the team assignments were completed, Hiruzen Sarutobi announced, "Team 7 will be led by Kakashi Hatake. Team 8 by Kurenai Yuhi. Team 10 by Asuma Sarutobi. Do you have any questions about this assignment?"

The three exchanged glances and shook their heads.

However, while the three had no questions, a voice outside raised one.

"They have no questions, but I do."

"I disagree with Kakashi Hatake leading Team 7!"
