Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 – Power, Love, and Destiny

The city skyline glittered under the night lights, a kingdom of steel and ambition. At the center of it all was Khalil Ashford, now widely known as KJ — a name that whispered power, influence, and fear.

At twenty-eight, he was no longer the boy who once cried in silence. He was a man forged by tragedy, ambition, and unyielding will, a magnate of countless companies and the undisputed leader of an empire rebuilt from ashes.

Inside the grand Ashford mansion, KJ strode into the living room, his footsteps echoing on the polished marble floors. His uncle, Kalix Ashford, looked up from his papers, one brow raised. Meredith's eyes sparkled, and Mira, as dramatic as ever, lounged impatiently on the sofa.

"I've made a decision," KJ announced, his deep voice cutting through the room. "I'm going to marry Celine — in three days."

The room froze. Then Meredith's face lit up like sunrise. "Finally! That's amazing!"

Mira leaped to her feet, twirling around as though the announcement had conjured magic. "About time! I've been waiting for this!"

KJ raised an eyebrow, a half-smile tugging at his lips. "Could you stop exaggerating things?"

"Oh, come on," Mira laughed, spinning again. "It's my brother's wedding, for crying out loud!"

Kalix chuckled, shaking his head. "He's right, Mira. But seeing you happy… that's all that matters, KJ."

KJ's gaze softened for a moment, lingering on the family that had shaped him. Three days. That's all we need to merge our packs. He thought of Celine — strong, determined, unafraid to match his will. That's why I love her. Not just my fiancée… my equal.

Meredith clapped her hands, and Mira spun once more, laughter filling the room. KJ allowed himself a rare moment of satisfaction. The wheels of destiny were turning.

Far across the city, in a quiet apartment filled with old photographs and the faint scent of herbs, Luna Arthur James sat alone. Her fingers traced the smiling faces of her parents. She remembered the day the plane crashed like it had happened yesterday. She had been fifteen.

The phone call… the screaming… the world crumbling around me…

Her parents had been on a routine business trip when the plane went down, leaving no survivors. Her aunt had seized her father's empire without hesitation, a cruel reminder of how fragile life could be. Her grandmother, a healer, had been the only light in those dark days.

I'll rise above this. I'll make them proud. I'll be more than anyone expects.

Now, years later, she was known as Doctor AJ — the hospital staff trusted her brilliance implicitly, though the public only knew the name. She had built her life on skill, precision, and control, turning tragedy into purpose.

The hospital erupted in chaos later that morning. A patient had been rushed in, critical and barely clinging to life. Doctors argued, voices overlapping, hands waving in panic.

"We need someone… now!" a nurse shouted, desperation clear in her tone.

Luna was passing by, her pace calm, her mind focused. She didn't hesitate. This is what I'm made for.

"Clear the way," she commanded, her voice sharp but composed.

Doctors froze. "It's a critical case… you can't—" one began.

"Watch closely," Luna interrupted, already assessing the patient.

In minutes, she orchestrated the chaos with precision. Nurses moved on her cues, doctors followed her lead, and the patient stabilized under her hands.

The emergency room staff exchanged whispers of awe.

"That's Luna… no one handles cases like her," one nurse murmured.

Outside the hospital, she remained a mystery. People only knew her as Doctor AJ, a name shrouded in curiosity, unaware of the woman behind it — the woman who had been orphaned by tragedy and shaped by loss.

Later that afternoon, KJ was speeding through the city streets, the tires of his sleek black car cutting through puddles from a sudden rain. His mind was on mergers, contracts, and the upcoming wedding.

He barely noticed the world around him.

Until a wave of mud splashed across a pedestrian — Luna.

She sputtered, dripping wet, her eyes blazing with anger. Without hesitation, she grabbed a stone from the sidewalk and hurled it at the car.

KJ slammed on the brakes, his dark eyes blazing. "Are you crazy?!" he shouted, leaping out of the car.

"You're the one driving like a maniac! What's your problem?!" Luna shot back, fury flashing in her eyes.

The air between them crackled with tension. Neither recognized the other. Neither knew the other's past.

"You think you can just splash people and get away with it?" Luna demanded.

"And you think you can throw stones at a moving car?!" KJ barked, jaw tight.

Their argument escalated, voices bouncing off the rain-soaked street. Passersby paused to watch the storm of anger and fire between them. KJ's pride refused to back down.

Luna's determination would not falter. By the end, one thing was certain: KJ hated her instantly, and Luna wasn't backing down.

Yet neither could deny the strange spark, the unexplainable tension, that would pull their paths together again. Two lives forged by tragedy, colliding by chance, bound to change everything.

Luna moved gracefully through the hospital corridors, her white coat a blur of purpose. Today was different. Today, she had been summoned to the conference room, where the hospital chairman nervously informed her that half of the hospital now belonged to Khalil Ashford.

The meeting had been brief, humiliating, and oddly revealing.

"What is her job again?" KJ had asked, his tone casual, eyes sharp as a hawk.

The chairman had stammered, fumbling for words.

"Uh… she… she's chief… uh…"

KJ had leaned back in his chair, cutting him off.

"Send her to get me a cup of coffee. And print out my schedule."

Silence fell. Luna, without hesitation, nodded politely and followed his instructions. Her thoughts raced only briefly: Does he even know who I am? Or is this some twisted power play?

Efficiency was her shield. Coffee was delivered, schedule printed, and KJ had barely glanced at her. Yet the brief encounter left an impression he couldn't shake. She moves like she owns the world, but she doesn't even care who I am… Interesting.

Later, KJ was touring the hospital, checking on various departments. The under-five clinic caught his attention. A group of tiny children waited with their parents for routine check-ups, their laughter and cries mixing in a chaotic symphony.

He stopped in the hallway, curiosity pulling him forward as he noticed Luna kneeling beside a small boy. Her hands were steady, her voice soft but firm, calming both child and parent alike.

"See? You're doing amazing," she said gently, smiling. "Now, let's try a few steps, okay?"

The boy's eyes shone, filled with both fear and hope. He took a small step, then another, wobbling slightly. Luna extended her hands, ready to catch him if he fell.

KJ's eyes narrowed. She's not just skilled… she's patient. Compassionate. And completely in control.

Suddenly, the boy's face lit up. He broke into a run toward her, screaming,

"Luna! Luna! Look! See my leg! I'm healed! I'm walking again! Just like you told me!"

Luna bent down, lifting him effortlessly. "You did it! See, I knew you could!"

The boy wrapped his tiny arms around her neck, hugging her tightly before she gently set him back on the ground. She greeted his mother with a warm smile and examined the boy's leg once more, checking for any complications.

KJ stood frozen, watching the scene unfold. His heart, which rarely skipped for anyone or anything, fluttered slightly. She's… extraordinary. Fierce, yet gentle. Strong, yet kind. And I didn't even know the half of it.

The mother whispered thanks, tears in her eyes. Luna nodded, her focus already shifting to the next patient, unaware of the dark-haired man silently observing her every move.

This woman… she's different, KJ thought, a storm of irritation, curiosity, and something unnameable twisting inside him. And I don't even know if I like it—or hate it.
