A few days since meeting Chelsea at the café, on a rainy day, Miles lays on his bed, holding her coat close and cuddling it. "What.. time is it..?", Miles asks himself, but his thoughts are halted by the sound of something gently hitting his bedroom window. Miles looks up, his grip on the coat not faltering as he inches closer and closer to the window, until he opens it to see Shane waiting for him below.
He puts on Chelsea's coat, and meets Shane downstairs, in the rain. "Hey, dude.. Why aren't you getting in?", Miles asks, only to be met with silence. His expression turning to worry, as Shane steps forward, drops falling down his face, finally saying "Miles. I need your help.". Miles' eyes widen as he continues "A few days from now, it's the Sadie Hawkins night, right?", to which Miles nods, saying "Oh. Prom night?". "I know it might be awkward to see Naya there and all, but.. I just need you there, man. Please.", Shane says, but Miles steps closer, extending his hand for a fist bump, with a shaky smile on his face, saying "Well, see you there, bro.". Shane smiles softly and bumps fists with him.
Elsewhere, Mallory and Naya sit in Naya's room as she tries on dresses. "Okay, you're gonna be my mirror, okay?", Naya says, smiling and holding up two dresses in her hands. Mallory giggles, saying "Sure, but I think you look great in all of them.", to which Naya playfully punches her arm and tries on another dress. Mallory looks down, her expression turning into worry, as she quietly asks "Are you sure you don't want to see Miles? Not even to fix things..?", but Naya stops halfway through putting on the dress, a moment of silence that lasts too long, until she mutters "I.. I can't reach the zipper. Help me.", changing the subject.
As the next day arrives, Miles and Shane enter a clothing shop at the mall, trying on multiple different tuxedoes. "So, why is it so important for me to go to prom with you?", Miles asks, as he buttons up his shirt, to which Shane jokingly says "Cause I need someone to keep the ladies off of me.", as he slicks his hair back. Miles chuckles, asking himself "Is it really 'ladies' that he wants to be safe from..?". Shane holds up a bottle of perfume, saying "Hey, this one will fit you perfectly, dude.", to which Miles laughs, saying "Yeah, right. I never wear this stuff..". Shane nudges him, saying "C'mon, bro. Wouldn't hurt to smell a bit better, would it?", and Miles chuckles, saying "I guess you're right."
Later, in the afternoon, Miles and Shane walk to the bus stop, Miles thinking to himself "Come on! Ask him! Ask him about the bullying!", and blurts out "Are you sure you don't need my help?". Miles covers his mouth as Shane stops in his tracks, his expression unreadable until he says "I uh.. gotta get going. See you at prom, dude.", and walks ahead of him. Miles, remembering what happened with Chelsea, doesn't run, but still inches towards him, saying "You can't blame me for being worried about you..!", but Shane nonchalantly says "Always gotta butt in, huh Miles?", as he enters the bus.
Miles, stunned, stands there, his gaze stuck on his feet, before snapping back to reality. He opens his mouth to speak, as the bus doors close, but nothing comes out. "Why.. is it so hard to say something.?.", he says to himself, as his fingers curl into his sleeve.
The next night, Miles sits in front of his mirror, looking at his tuxedo on the hanger. He takes a deep breath, watching as the shower water's heat fogs up the glass, and drawing a smiling face on it, but wiping it away and asking himself "What am I even doing anymore, man..?", and dressing up. As Miles walks out of his room, he looks at Chelsea's coat on his bed, saying quietly "Wish me luck..?", before leaving the room. When Miles walks downstairs, he is met by Richard and Mary, proudly filming their son as he walks downstairs. "Aww.. There's my little man.", Mary says, and Miles bashfully says "Come on, It's just prom, not a big deal..", but he is stopped by Mallory, who rushes into the room, panting. "Phew! Sorry I'm late, bro. I just had to see you off on your Sadie Hawkins prom night. Everyoneknows the Sadie Hawkins is the most important dance in high school.", she breathily says, hugging him. Miles, laughing, saying "Hey, Mal! You're so sweaty! Gross!", before leaving the room, smiling faintly.
As Miles walks towards the bus stop, he sees a limousine, with several party lights, pulls up towards him. As it stops near him, the door opens to reveal his whole class, having fun within. "Get in, bro. We're getting to Sadie Hawkins in style!", Shane says, and Miles, smiling, enters. Miles sits next to Shane, asking "Where did you guys get a limo!?", to which Shane excitedly says "We've been saving up for years for tonight. Besides, it's the one night of the school year, where there'll be no teachers!", and the limo erupts in cheers. As the limo arrives at the school, everyone gets off, heading in. "Okay, you ready for this?", Shane asks, to which Miles says "Nope. Let's do this.", with a slight thrill in his voice.
As they walk in, a sports car pulls up to the school, and Anny, in a classy, mature dress, emerges. Miles looks at Shane, and sees visible cracks form in his smile. "Hey, should we head in..?", Miles asks, but Shane says "You go ahead. I'll meet you in there.", as he walks through the crowd to get a clear view of Anny. As Miles walks into the prom, he is met by the bright lights, large crowd and loud music instantly, he covers his ears as he sees a familiar figure in the crowd, it's Naya.
"Well, well. Who did you have to seduce for this beauty?", Shane snarkily asks, touching the sports car's hood, and Anny says "You just love to make a fool of yourself, don't you, Prince?", barely looking his way. Shane twitches slightly at the comment, but continues "I'm not the one who's relying on stolen clout, babe.", as they walk into the prom together, as the whole school cheers for them.
Elsewhere, at Miles' house, Mallory hears a knock on the door, and opens it. It's Chelsea, nervously rubbing her arm, asking "Um.. hey. Miles.. took, I mean.. borrowed my coat, and I came to get it.". Mallory's eyes widen as she takes in her appearance, and finally recognizes her "Wait.. You're Chelsea!", and Chelsea says "Yeah, I knew Miles a while ago.". Mallory says "Well, you can come in. Miles isn't here, but I can go get your coat.", as she welcomes Chelsea in.
Mallory pours her a cup of tea, saying "You know, Miles used to be obsessed with you, back in the day..", which makes Chelsea tense up, saying "Y.. yeah..". She takes a sip, as Mallory, says "I'm his older sister, by the way. Mallory.", as she smiles at her. "Yeah, Miles mentioned you a while ago. Nice to meet you.", Chelsea says, taking a sip. "So, where's.. Miles..?", she timidly asks, to which Mallory responds "He and his class left for the Sadie Hawkins a while ago. Oh, sorry.. lemme go get your coat.",, as she gets up and goes upstairs. Chelsea looks down, saying to herself "So he moved on. Good..", as she sips her tea. "There's no point in me going after him, now..", she says to herself, but she remembers a memory of her and Miles, playing at their childhood park.
She remembers the warmth she felt when Miles gave her the fox plushie, not from the plushie's softness, but the warmth in her heart when he reached out to her. Chelsea feels her face heat up as tears form on her eyes, she wipes her face, saying to herself "I never did repay you for that..", as she gets up, sniffling slightly and says "Uh.. Mallory. I don't need the coat after all! He can keep it!", and runs out of the house. She runs through the park, where the playground used to be, saying to herself "I gotta repay you for... everything..! Miles!"
