Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:The Awakening

The world didn't end with an explosion.

On an ordinary day—

with ordinary people—

living ordinary lives.

Everything changed.

At first, it was small.

A flicker in the air.

A distortion—like heat bending light.

Subtle.

Easy to ignore.

But then—

It tore open.

Not shattered.

Not exploded.

It split.

Like reality itself had been cut apart.

A crack… hanging in midair.

Dark.

Unstable.

A Fracture.

No one understood what it was at first.

It wasn't just a hole.

It was a break between worlds.

A tear in space where something from elsewhere could cross into ours.

And from that tear…

Something stepped out.

Not human.

Not animal.

Something else.

Something else was happening.

The first reports came in—fragmented, filled with confusion.

"Unknown creature sighted."

"Hostile entity confirmed."

"Unknown creature sighted."

"Hostile entity confirmed."

No one used the word "monster" yet.

They didn't understand.

Then the screaming started.

Within days—

Fractures began appearing everywhere.

Cities. Highways. Schools.

No pattern. No warning.

Just…

chaos.

Some Fractures were small—barely the size of a door.

Others stretched across buildings, like open wounds in the sky.

But their size…

didn't determine their danger.

Because what mattered—

was what existed inside.

Inside a Fracture…

was another space.

Not darkness.

Not emptiness.

A different world.

Twisted. Unstable. Hostile.

Scholars would later define it as a sub-dimension—

a pocket reality anchored to the Fracture.

A nest.

A breeding ground.

A dungeon.

At the very core of every Fracture…

was something called keystone .

An invisible point that held the tear open.

As long as the Keystone existed—

the Fracture would not close.

And around that Keystone…

monsters were born.

Not randomly.

But continuously.

Like the Fracture itself was producing them.

Monsters poured out.

Some small and fast—hunting in packs.

Others… towering giants that crushed buildings like paper.

Human weapons barely worked.

Bullets slowed them.

But nothing stopped them.

And then—

Humans began to change too.

Some people awakened.

They could feel it—

A strange energy flowing through the world.

Mana.

It leaked out from Fractures, spreading into the environment…

changing everything it touched.

Those who learned to control it gained power.

Strength beyond normal limits.

Speed.

Abilities that defied logic.

But it wasn't enough.

Not at first.

Within the first year—

Nearly one-fourth of humanity died.

Cities fell.

Nations collapsed.

Communication vanished.

The old world—

Was gone.

People would later call it:

Year 0 of the Monster Era.

But humanity didn't disappear.

It adapted.

The awakened became fighters.

Hunters.

Protectors.

Guilds were formed.

Organizations rose.

Power shifted.

And the Fractures—

Didn't stay the same.

They evolved.

Each Fracture acted like a living system.

If left alone…

it would grow.

Expand.

Stabilize.

The space inside would deepen—

forming layers.

Stronger monsters would appear.

Elites.

Then—

Bosses.

Creatures that guarded the Anchor itself.

That was when humanity discovered the truth.

A Fracture could not be destroyed from the outside.

It had to be entered.

Cleared.

The monsters inside had to be killed—

And the Keystone…

had to be broken.

Only then—

would the Fracture collapse.

But if ignored…

everything worsened.

The longer a Fracture remained active—

the stronger it became.

More monsters.

Stronger mutations.

Faster spawning.

Until eventually—

It reached its limit.

And then—

It overflowed.

A collapse of its boundary.

A violent expansion.

Releasing everything inside…

into the real world.

Entire regions were wiped out overnight because of that.

Cities erased.

No survivors.

That was when humanity learned—

The hard way—

A Fracture is not just a tear.

It is a ticking disaster.

And ignoring it…

was never an option.

Years passed.

Time itself was rewritten.

No longer counted by calendars—

But by survival.

Today is:

Monster Year 1010.

The world has changed beyond recognition.

And the Fractures…

Are still evolving.

"…and that is why Fracture management is critical for survival."

"Hey… Leo."

A voice cut through the lecture.

"Leo, wake up."

I blinked.

Something nudged my arm.

I turned slightly—

Kael.

My closest friend.

Looking annoyed.

"You've been spacing out again," he whispered. "If Sir Darius calls you, you're dead."

I straightened immediately.

Right.

Class.

At the front—

Sir Darius stood, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room.

Then—

It stopped.

On me.

"Leo."

My heart dropped.

"Yes, sir?"

"Since you seem deep in thought," he said calmly,

"explain what I just said about Fractures."

A few students turned.

Mira.

Joren.

Some already holding back laughter.

Kael leaned closer. "You're finished."

I took a breath.

"…If no one enters a Fracture," I said slowly,

"…it becomes more dangerous over time. The monsters inside grow stronger, multiply… and the space itself expands."

I paused briefly.

"…until it eventually overflows into the real world."

Silence.

Then—

Sir Darius nodded.

"Correct."

The tension disappeared.

I leaned back slightly.

Kael smirked.

"Not bad."

"…Yeah."
