The office was buzzing, but Chen Yuxi barely noticed. Her mind was on the system, tracking every whisper, every suspicious move in the company. Nothing escapes me, she thought with satisfaction.
But Lin Guo stood behind her, quiet as a shadow. He watched her fingers hover above her mental interface, noted the slight tightening of her jaw when she discovered a discrepancy, and… smiled faintly.
She thinks she's in control. Amusing.
Suddenly, Yue Xinyan stormed in, her heels clicking sharply across the polished floor. "Lin Guo, why is she handling the merger files? I—"
Before she could finish, Chen Yuxi's hand shot out, slapping her across the cheek. Hard. The office gasped. Yue Xinyan's eyes widened in shock, hand flying to her face.
"You don't get to intimidate me!" Yuxi snapped, heart pounding, while mentally scolding herself: Keep calm, you have a system. Don't lose it here.
Lin Guo's dark eyes flicked between them, the faintest smirk on his lips. He could hear every thought: the fear, the panic, the mental insults.
She's clever… bold… fearless. Impressive, he mused silently, letting her think she had won the moment.
Yue Xinyan, recovering, hissed: "This isn't over. You'll regret this!"
Chen Yuxi rolled her eyes mentally. System, flag her threats. Every single one.
Lin Guo leaned just slightly closer, voice low and magnetic: "You handled that well. Most would have frozen or stammered. You… impressed me."
Yuxi's stomach flipped. He noticed… he actually noticed!
But she didn't know that he also knew exactly what she was thinking: the tiny admiration, the secret thrill, the fear mixed with excitement. Every contradiction in her mind laid bare.
For the rest of the day, Lin Guo began subtle manipulations:
Guiding her decisions without her noticing.
Hinting at office opportunities only she could seize.
Watching her confidence rise… and her mental admiration grow.
Yuxi left the office that evening, exhausted, exhilarated, and utterly confused. She had no idea how much he already knew, or how he had begun drawing her closer—not just as an assistant, but as someone whose mind, thoughts, and even heart were under his watchful eye.
She thinks she's playing the game. But she doesn't know the rules have changed.
