Chapter 16 - Say it clearly

Chen Yuxi didn't move.

The parking lot felt colder now.

Quieter.

Heavier.

Her heart was still racing—but her mind had snapped into place.

Clear. Focused.

Dangerously calm.

She looked at him.

Directly.

No hesitation.

"No," she said. "Don't do that."

Lin Guo paused slightly.

"What?"

"Don't act like nothing happened."

Her voice wasn't loud.

But it cut clean.

Silence.

Then—

She stepped closer.

"If you're going to say something like that…" she continued, eyes locked on his, "…then say it properly."

Her heartbeat pounded.

But she didn't back down.

Lin Guo watched her.

Really watched her.

She's not running.

Good.

"What do you think I meant?" he asked calmly.

Too calmly.

Yuxi let out a short breath.

"You said," she repeated slowly, "you always know what I'm thinking."

A beat.

"Explain that."

The air shifted again.

Tension tightening like a wire pulled too far.

Lin Guo didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stepped closer.

Closing the distance.

Again.

"Why?" he asked quietly. "Does it bother you?"

Her chest tightened.

Yes.

No.

Maybe.

"It's not about bothering me," she said, voice steady. "It's about the fact that you're always… ahead."

She narrowed her eyes slightly.

"You react before I speak. You know things you shouldn't. And today—"

She stopped.

Then finished:

"That wasn't normal."

Silence.

Heavy.

Real.

For a moment—

Lin Guo said nothing.

Did nothing.

Then—

He smiled.

Slow.

Dangerous.

"And if I told you," he said softly, "that you're right?"

Her breath caught.

Her mind raced instantly.

No. He's bluffing. Testing me. Don't fall for it.

But his gaze didn't waver.

Didn't soften.

Didn't lie.

"You're not imagining it," he continued.

Low. Calm. Certain.

Her heart slammed.

So it's true…

"Then how?" she demanded.

No hesitation now.

No fear.

Just truth.

Another pause.

Longer this time.

Lin Guo's expression shifted—just slightly.

Less teasing.

More… serious.

"That," he said quietly, "is not something you're ready to understand."

Her eyes flashed.

"That's not an answer."

"I know."

Frustration hit instantly.

Sharp. Hot.

"You don't get to say something like that and then just—walk away from it!" she snapped.

He didn't react to her tone.

Didn't step back.

Didn't break eye contact.

Instead—

He reached out.

Gripped her chin lightly.

Lifting her gaze just a little.

"Careful," he murmured.

Soft. Dangerous.

"Some truths… once you know them, you can't go back."

Her breath hitched.

But she didn't pull away.

Why am I not pulling away?

His thumb brushed lightly against her jaw.

Barely there.

But enough to send a spark down her spine.

"And you," he added quietly,

"…are already too deep in this."

Silence.

Then—

He let go.

Stepped back.

Control restored.

Mask back in place.

"Let's go," he said calmly.

As if nothing had just happened.

But this time—

Chen Yuxi followed.

Not because she had no choice.

But because she understood something now.

This wasn't just a game anymore.

It was something deeper.

More dangerous.

More real.

And whether she liked it or not—

She was already part of it.
