Chapter 12 - Epilogue

The land was silent.

Not the silence of peace—

but the silence left behind after something had ended.

Broken ground stretched in every direction, deep cracks splitting through the earth as if the land itself had tried to escape. Weapons lay scattered—blades snapped, handles shattered, metal buried halfway into the dirt.

Bodies were everywhere.

Dozens of them.

Armor torn. Limbs twisted. Faces frozen in the final moment they failed to survive. They had fought. All of them. And none of them had won.

A shadow stretched across the ruined field.

Long.

Unmoving.

At the center of it—

something stood.

It did not breathe loudly. It did not move with urgency. It simply existed, towering over the destruction around it. The broken structures nearby barely reached halfway up its form, making its size feel unnatural. Its presence alone bent the air into something heavy—something that didn't belong.

The others had moved like beasts.

This one did not.

It shifted.

Just slightly.

The ground beneath it cracked instantly, the sound echoing through the empty field. Dust lifted into the air without warning, carried by a force that wasn't wind.

Far away—

three figures moved.

Survivors.

Barely.

Their steps were uneven, their bodies shaking, but they were still standing. Still breathing. Still alive.

For a moment, none of them spoke.

Then—one lunged.

A desperate move. A final attempt. His blade never reached. The massive figure moved—not fast, not violently—just enough. Its arm lifted, intercepting the attack before it could fully form. Fingers closed around him mid-motion.

Effortless.

A single motion followed.

The body was thrown. It struck the ground far away with a sickening force, the impact ending him instantly.

The other two froze.

Fear.

Real fear.

But it didn't matter.

One tried to run. The distance didn't exist. The ground shattered beneath him as something crossed it in an instant. He didn't even have time to turn before the force struck.

He dropped. Lifeless.

The last one stood alone.

Breathing fast. Eyes wide.

He raised his blade—not to fight—

but because he didn't know what else to do.

The shadow fell over him.

For a moment—everything went still.

Then—

it ended.

Silence returned.

No movement. No resistance. Nothing left. The field was empty again.

Only one presence remained.

Unharmed.

Unshaken.

Unchallenged.

It stood there, unmoving, as if none of it had mattered.

Because to it—

it hadn't.

A faint shift passed through the air.

And for the first time—

something changed.

Not in the land.

Not in the fallen.

But in it.

Its head tilted slightly, as if sensing something far beyond this place. Something distant. Something… above.

It did not move toward it.

It did not question it.

It simply stood.

And waited.

The trial had ended.

But for something like this—

it had never begun.
