Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Harley Quinzel’s Love and Family

If a novel is boring, it's definitely the author's fault.

A person should have self-awareness. Saying the current readers are no good is just pure bullshit.

The same logic applies: if a game is not fun, it's definitely the creator's fault.

Trash gacha machine, ruining my youth! Eat jujube and die!

The reward system wasn't even properly designed before they released it to scam players… At least let me spend money if you want! I drew two trash skills, then discovered I couldn't farm achievement points anymore.

Gwen was so angry her tits hurt.

She had originally planned to walk around the juvenile detention center with a brick and slaughter her way through to farm knockout points. But after taking down the guards, she couldn't find any more tough guys. The two big bosses of the boys' and girls' sections in the detention center were both sensible young geniuses who didn't give her any chance to go berserk.

No, think about it. Look at other people's systems… Where are the quests? You don't give quests, you don't give quest rewards, you just want to force this old lady to go out on the streets fighting crime and upholding justice, right?

What era is this? You still want me to play Legend Blue Moon?

Wait…

Gwen hugged her iPhone and fell into deep thought, while Harley lay on the chair beside her, clutching her belly and groaning.

She had devoured two family buckets in one go. The ketchup smeared around her mouth made her look like an unfortunate early-pregnancy girl who had died tragically.

"Boss, you were right. The food in the detention center is literal shit. I haven't tasted fried chicken burgers for a full eighteen weeks."

Gwen raised an eyebrow. "I heard some guards use fries dipped in milkshakes to bribe informants?"

"Can you dip fries in milkshakes?" Harley's eyes lit up as if she had discovered a new world, but the junk food already stuffed down her throat stopped her impulse. "I've never heard of that. Alpine doesn't have such high-class room service. A single lollipop is enough to buy an informant. Where are you talking about? Blackgate Prison?"

"It was Fox River… Never mind, that's not important. Next time I can treat you." Gwen put down her phone and turned to look at Harley. "Tell me about your past. I'm a little curious. You had a complete family, you're smart with good grades, and you even competed in the World Gymnastics Championships… Why did you end up in a welfare institution and then get thrown into juvenile detention?"

The gacha app had just notified her that she had successfully recruited her first subordinate. Achievement points +10.

Yes, those little brats in Alpine Juvenile Detention Center didn't count. They were only intimidated by Gwen's tyrannical power and tempted by various welfare promises, so they acted obedient. In reality they had zero loyalty. After all the热闹, Gwen had only managed to recruit one real subordinate.

Harley Quinzel.

That was the real pleasant surprise.

Recruiting subordinates and building an organization wasn't that simple. It wasn't kindergarten house-play. Gwen had already prepared for long-term planning, but she hadn't expected to recruit a high-level subordinate with background, character, and talent skills on the very first day!

Gotham really had wholesome customs and outstanding talents!

Never mind the stats for now. If she didn't farm loyalty right now, when would she?

"Uh… maybe because I beat my dad and put him in the hospital?" Harley rubbed her belly weakly. "That old bastard loved gambling. He lied and said he owed people millions and could only bet on me losing in the final match, otherwise they'd chop off his fingers. Motherfucker, I helped him win money with a silver medal, and he turned around and bought himself a new car. So I beat him up along with his new car."

"That still shouldn't have been enough to send you to a welfare institution, right?"

"Ah… later I reported him. My mom tried to save him by reporting that I took performance-enhancing drugs and said I was framing my dad. Then I turned around and reported her for helping my dad launder money."

Hmm… it's a bit messy. Let me sort it out…

"Even so, why did you end up in juvenile detention later?"

"The nuns at the orphanage had a little misunderstanding with me. That's a long story." Harley stood up and stretched, her eyes shining as she looked at Gwen. "If you're willing to listen, I can tell you all night… But it's already so late, Boss. You're not sending me back to the detention center, right?"

Gwen took two green bills out of her pocket and slapped them into Harley's hand. "Pocket money for you. Help me with two things. First, go find a projector and some cartoons."

Harley quickly snatched the bills and gave a military salute. "No problem, Boss. Gladly. But this money isn't enough to buy meat—I mean for those little bastards."

"Don't worry about the meat. I have my ways. Second thing: help me investigate who the old street bosses were in Gotham who specialized in managing little thugs—that is, juvenile offenders." Gwen whispered, "You're the big sister of the girls' section. You must have heard something before, right?"

"Mm-hmm—" Harley thought for a moment and nodded. "Aside from pimps and drug dealers, there really is a group of scum who specialize in bullying kids. I remember they were called Black Dog Pete or something. Why don't you ask Selina? She's a real street person with good connections. Even in the detention center I've heard her name."

"That's different, Harley. She's a stray wild cat, and she's very proud inside." Gwen said earnestly, "Harley, you're not the same as her. You've received higher education, you have brains, you can understand my intentions, and you're willing to trust me. That's why I'm also willing to understand you more, to train you as my trusted sister, and share some very important, private, and interesting things with you."

"Of course! I could tell right away that you're no ordinary person!" Harley nodded hard, eyes sparkling. "Also, your tight suit is so cool! Once we build the organization, can I make a uniform similar to yours?"

"Cool?" Gwen was noncommittal. "They all say it's sexy and cute and makes people want to fuck…"

"I think it's a color issue." Harley suggested seriously. "Pink-white tones are cute but lack intimidation. Boss, if you want to be the boss later, you should adjust the tones to something colder. What do you think about red-black?"

Gwen thought for a moment. "You mean like this?"

The mask on her face slowly changed, melting like wax from white to black. It opened a bloody maw, revealing rows of sharp fangs. Under Harley's terrified gaze, a long tongue shot out and wrapped around her wrist.

"Waaaaaaaah—!"

Harley let out a high-pitched scream loud enough to shatter glass.

Perfect. Gwen changed back to normal and nodded in satisfaction.

One stick and one date. Recruiting subordinates required both kindness and intimidation.
