Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Light and Darkness

"He is a monster! A scourge! A curse!"

"All the things that happened in our village are because of him!"

The village chief led the charge, bursting in and pointing at the child already dead in Geto Suguru's arms, unleashing a torrent of curses.

His expression was utterly revolting, as if everything he was doing was righteous.

Great, immortal, and correct.

Geto Suguru stared blankly at everything unfolding before him.

He had been kind and amiable to them since entering the village, answering every question without hesitation.

The village chief, who had been so caring and polite to them.

Now seemed like a completely different person.

He spoke frantically, accusing the boy of heinous crimes.

The twisted expression on his face was like that of a madman!

It was as if this entire Cursed Spirit incident was the boy's masterpiece.

If they killed him, everything would be peaceful, and the missing children would be fine.

Geto Suguru truly couldn't imagine, couldn't comprehend.

Why was it like this? Were the people he protected all like this?

How disgusting!

Geto Suguru felt a wave of nausea wash over him.

This psychological disgust was a thousand, ten thousand times worse than any Cursed Spirit he had ever consumed!

Alex Moyan's gaze fell upon the village chief's face, deeply etched with wrinkles, resembling a malevolent ghost.

He sneered coldly, "You claim this boy is a disaster; what is your evidence?"

Upon hearing a chance to explain, the village chief's emotions instantly became agitated.

He launched into a long tirade of self-righteous reasons and nonsensical arguments.

He made no attempt to persuade Alex Moyan or deny the fact that he was killing someone.

But to Alex Moyan, this was nothing but fallacy and foolishness!

Alex Moyan's gaze was calm as he swept over the few people present.

They were almost all elderly, at the age where they should be grandfathers and grandmothers.

"Your so-called omens and disasters are merely your own wishful thinking."

"To put it in your perspective as ordinary people..."

"That child has Yin-Yang Eyes; he can see things you cannot."

"Simply put, he is the same kind of person as us."

"What is hidden in that villa is not something else, but the ghosts you perceive."

"Therefore, your sanctimonious reasons..."

"Cannot cover up the fact that you murdered an innocent child."

Alex Moyan's words struck the few people present like a bolt of lightning, leaving them thunderstruck.

The village chief knew perfectly well that this matter had nothing to do with the boy.

But they had also gone to the villa, wanting to rescue their beloved grandchildren.

Yet, before they even saw a single shadow, they were knocked to the ground by an invisible, bizarre force.

They were injured, some nearly losing their lives.

They considered burning the villa down, but what about the children inside?

They weren't afraid of death; after all, they had lived most of their lives.

But their children were only a few years old!

They were young, still youthful, with so much beautiful life ahead of them.

They couldn't die, at least, not before them.

But the disappearances of the children didn't stop. By the time the villagers realized and sent the children away from the village,

Over a dozen children had already been taken by the ghosts.

But among so many children, only that boy wasn't taken.

The reason was simple: that boy possessed the qualification to become a Jujutsu Sorcerer and could see Cursed Spirits.

Thus, he avoided capture by the Cursed Spirits.

But while the boy escaped the Cursed Spirits, he couldn't escape the darkness and jealousy originating from human hearts.

Why did my child disappear, yet you are fine!

By what right! Is my child not a child too?!

It must be you, it must all be you!

In desperation, they grasped at straws!

The boy's qualification as a Jujutsu Sorcerer became the reason he was viewed as a menace.

Some villagers even believed this was the doing of the mountain god.

They thought that by sacrificing the boy, their own children would safely return.

The villagers' ignorance and foolishness became the fuse for this incident.

But Alex Moyan saw no sign of regret on their faces.

That was to be expected.

After all, this was human nature...

They weren't afraid of being held accountable for murder; what they feared was...

That they had done wrong!

They had violated the justice and kindness they upheld their entire lives.

They abandoned their principles as human beings, gave up everything, and did something they thought was right.

And in the end, it turned out to be wrong!

They couldn't accept the condemnation from their own conscience. They clearly knew, yet they couldn't accept such an ugly and disgusting side of themselves.

Surely, they... weren't wrong...

Alex Moyan was in no mood to continue babbling with them; he directly called the police.

His mission was to eliminate the Cursed Spirits and resolve their so-called supernatural incident.

Alex Moyan had no interest in killing all these villagers for the sake of a boy he didn't know.

You could say they were ugly, but their ugly motive was to save their own children.

Humans are truly contradictory...

Soon, the police arrived at the village.

And arrested all involved parties.

Geto Suguru found a secluded spot for the boy and buried him properly.

Looking at the boy's grave, Geto Suguru asked Alex Moyan with confusion and helplessness,

"Moyan, tell me, we risk our lives to eliminate Cursed Spirits."

"Is it just to protect a group of people like this?"

Geto Suguru's heart was already wavering. Ever since he became a Jujutsu Sorcerer,

The driving force that kept him repeating the process of eliminating and consuming Cursed Spirits every day,

Was to protect the weak from being disturbed by Cursed Spirits.

But now, for a moment, he didn't know if what he was doing was right or wrong.

What was the meaning of his beliefs, the meaning of his existence?

Alex Moyan sighed internally as he watched the lost Geto Suguru.

The current Geto Suguru was only sixteen years old, which translated to the age of an ordinary high school student.

It was a crucial period for shaping one's correct worldview and life purpose.

However just Geto Suguru was righteous, kind, and responsible now,

The more extreme and unbelievable his eventual descent into darkness would be.

Alex Moyan could have solved this alone, but he deliberately brought Geto Suguru along.

Why?

Because Alex Moyan didn't want Geto Suguru to become that madman who would even kill his own parents.

Once you experience certain things, you naturally develop resistance.

And you won't easily stray onto an extreme path.

"There is no absolute good or evil in this world."

"There is no absolute right or wrong either."

"What you believe to be right, others may see as wrong."

"What you believe to be wrong, others may see as right."

"Light is accompanied by darkness, and within darkness, there is also light."

Alex Moyan walked to Geto Suguru's side and gently placed his hand on his shoulder.

"Suguru, this world is not strictly black and white."

"The more you see, the more you will realize that this world is a deep shade of gray."

"Sometimes, black can turn white, and white can turn black."

"Some darkness may not be as insidious as whiteness, and some whiteness might carry a deeper sin."

"Do you say they were wrong? Of course, they were wrong."

"But their original intention was to save their own children."

"But! Is that child not a child too?!"

Geto Suguru spoke through gritted teeth, his tone agitated and filled with hatred.

Alex Moyan said calmly, "Have you ever read Les Misérables?"

Geto Suguru shook his head.

"Les Misérables has a saying."

"The heart of man releases the light, and the heart of man also creates the darkness."

"Light and shadow intertwine and battle."

"This is the human world we yearn for, yet find utterly helpless in."

Seeing Geto Suguru deep in thought,

Alex Moyan asked,

"Suguru, why did you become a Jujutsu Sorcerer?"

Geto Suguru seemed uncertain, as today's events had severely shaken him.

He replied, "To protect the weak and uphold justice."

"Then do you know why I became a Jujutsu Sorcerer?"

"Why?"

Geto Suguru turned to look at Alex Moyan, his gaze searching as if he desperately wanted an answer from him.

"Because it's cool!"

Alex Moyan said, flashing a huge, wide smile, making an 'eight' sign with his hand.

His pink gums were fully exposed.
