Xavier's POV
I stared at the flashing caller ID on my desk for two full seconds before reluctantly picking up the call.
I swiped the screen, brought the phone to my ear, and leaned back in my leather chair. "Hey, Mario. What's up?"
"Are you okay?" Mario asked immediately and his voice was devoid of its usual casual banter.
I deeply frowned and my jaw tightened because I had no idea why he asked that. "What type of question is that? Why wouldn't I be okay?"
Mario stayed quiet on the other end for a long, heavy moment. "I just wanted to make sure you are okay, man."
I reclined back in my office chair, running a hand over my face as I thought about the absolute nightmare of a morning I had been enduring ever since I walked into the station... First, it was Alfred's theatrical, psychotic drama in Interrogation Two, and now this high-society heartbreak broadcasted live on national television.
