Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: Pain

Warning: Blood, death

James's eyes opened, looking up to see Pia watching him. He questioned her, "Why are you watching me sleep?" She looked away from him, mumbling something under her breath, then said, "I was going to wake you up but then I realized you most likely need some sleep so I just waited for you to wake up." James didn't know what to say, so he said, "Thank you I guess." Pia stiffened herself and threw him out of bed, "Good, let's get out of here now." They packed up as they went up the stairs. Pia looked around first, looking at James before she opened the door. James stayed behind before they heard the doorbell ring. They were confused, pulling the door to slither out and see. Pia met James as they both looked at who was behind the door. The dad came towards the door. Pia was going to say, "Do not open-" but it was too late. The second the door opened wide enough, a shot rang through the air and the dad fell to the ground, blood pouring out of his head.

Then soldiers stormed in from the front door. Pia closed and locked the basement door as she hurried James downstairs. The soldier easily broke through the door, filling the house with soldiers. In seconds, a tall male soldier yelled: "Come out before we set this house on fire!" Pia started to blast them down. Until she stopped, the house filled with smoke as they both left the basement, looking around at the soldier on the ground. He hit the Pia side as more soldiers came now from the back and front of the house. They were surrounded, and they stormed into the house as shots flew through the air. They heard screaming as Mable came crashing through the top floor, coughing up blood. She was trying to hold her shotgun, but her right arm was broken. She said, "They killed them all," with her eyes going dull slamming into the ground. Pia and James are blocking most. James felt warm blood hit his face. He turned, seeing that Pia was looking at him with a hole through her neck. She fell to the ground, choking on blood, looking at James, smiling.

"Fine the other James and make the king drink his own blood…." James got shot in the leg, falling to the ground, yelling in pain, crying out with hate. A woman's voice yelled, "Yield." The bullets stopped firing. The general looked at James; her voice sank into him. "Guys, you killed one of them the King said to keep them alive." She looked at James, "I guess my luck turned around today. Even though two of the other creatures escaped and are not letting that happen again." She licked James' neck, saying, "I am wondering what your name is." This vision went blurry. He hit the ground and looked up, seeing Houstin in front of him. "Come on Li didn't give up on us yet." His eyes glowed green as time rewinded.

He looked around, saw Pia looking at the door, and saw the dad walking towards it. He pushed past Pia, tackling the dad to the ground. "What are you doing, kids?" He said in confusion. Pia looked at him wondering, hearing the knocking get harder, then hearing more footsteps around the house. He looked at the dad, saying, "Get your family to a safe place." The dad ran upstairs, and they now heard yelling, "Open the door or we are going to break it down!" James ran towards Pia, and she asked: "Do you know any way out ?" James said, "No," Pia sighed, "We might have to fight," James yelled out, "NO!" before lowering his voice, saying, "No their soldiers out-." The door flew off its hinges as soldiers poured into the house. They closed the door, locking it as they went down the basement, looking around for a way out. Pia saw a different colored tile on the floor. She punched underneath, and there was a trapdoor. They went through it with all their stuff as they went through the tunnel and left the house. James pushed his way through another trapdoor, feeling the sun hit his face. He got out first and helped Pia out next. They were now on the edges of the forest. "We need to make sure we are not being followed," Pia started to heat her hand before explosions went off in the tunnel. Pia looked at James, sight smiled, and went across her face. "They were prepared for every situation huh?" James looked off into the distance. "They are safe, Mabel and her family." She patted his shoulder, and they ran off, now looking at the others. Pis saying "And no one got hurt." James' eyes went dull about what just happened. He whispers to himself, "Yeah no one got hurt." He looked at her before she spat up blood, coughing as she fell to the ground, choking, yelling, "Pia!" She looked at him confused , "Good James?" James' eyes darted around. She was fine, sighing, looking to the ground. The body was gone as the ringing slowed, "Fine, just daydreaming."

The next couple of days went by fast for Mason. They had been trying to stay far away from most small towns and villages for a while; they hadn't really talked to each other. They took some old clothes on the way out of the village and a bag. The bag reminds Jeff of the bag his mom used to make back home, so he was carrying most of the stuff. They were eating whatever they could find and moving quickly throughout the day and resting at night. They reached a nearby lake. Mason smiled, saying, "We can rest here tonight." They set up camp as the sun hit down on them. Mason suggested something like, "Let's go for a swim." Jeff scoffed at the idea as he was setting up for the nighttime fire, saying, "We can't get our clothes wet," Mason smirked and looked at him, saying, "I know." Jeff looked over just in time to see Mason taking off all his clothes and jumping into the lake. Jeff's face went red as he saw it happen, seeing himself splashing in the water. "Get out of the water going to get sick," Jeff looked at him. Mason was just swimming through the water. "I'm not going to get sick, but I'm sick of you not swimming with me." He looked away, seeing Atlas smirking, "I told him I am not swimming," he pointed behind him as Mason smirked, "If you don't get the water right now I'll drag you in the water myself." Jeff didn't believe him until he saw Mason about to get out of the water. "Okay, okay I am getting in the water, turn around now." Mason turned around as Jeff took his clothes off and got in the water. "The water is cold," Jeff responded. Mason laughed. "Your body is going to get used to the water," he splashed water in his face, and Jeff did back. The sun soon was going to set, as Mason said, "I got to go to the bathroom." He got up and ran into the forest, disappearing behind the trees. He heard a voice coming from a rock near the lake, "Hey Jeffy you've been busy using your power and with your boyfriend." Jeff relayed back, "He is not my boyfriend." Atlas added, "Not yet my friend," They dropped into the water before appearing in front of him. Atlas was wearing black swim trunks with scars around its breast . Atlas' chest was muscular, more like a man, but the rest of the body was harder to tell; most of it was covered in scars. "You should tell him about me, and your feelings." Jeff said, "No to both of them," he tried to push them away, but his hand went through them. "I forgot that happened," he heard footsteps coming. He looked around. Atlas looked at Mason. Jeff looked at "Stop looking at him." Atlas looked at him, "Unlike you I don't like people at all," They disappeared. He heard Mason splashing into the water. He looked around and saw Jeff. "How are you?" Jeff looked at him, swimming closer together. Mason smiled, "I need a towel. Can you make me one?" Jeff responded, "Maybe if you gave me a kiss." Then the air felt thick with silent anger, but Jeff pushed past it. Mason looked at him inches from his face, and Jeff stood back. Jeff pushed him away. "Oh, that was a funny joke." Mason smirked, "Who said I was joking?" Jeff's eyes glowed red as he made a towel, throwing it in Mason's face. "Go get dried off you weirdo," Mason laughed as Jeff turned away as he heard Mason get out of the water. Jeff looked at Atlas in the water right beside him. "Can you help me?" Atlas chucked, "I can't help with your emotions. I am not a god of emotions." Jeff looked at him, "Are you a god?" Atlas chucked, "I am a god to some people and with others am not," Jeff looked away from them, "You are no help." His eyes glowed as he made a towel appear; his gem cracked even more. The towels were thin. Mason had already put on his clothes except his shirt, then looked over towards Jeff. "Hey are you going to come out," Jeff smiled back before his eyes glowed red, yelling out, "Yeah I will be out soon lover boy." Mason sighed, but stood focused on the fire he had already started. "How did this happen?" Atlas smiled, popping right next to him, "Jeff you know you need food for your powers to work." Jeff glared at Atlas before saying,"Ugghha, fine when I get many hands on you are going to uuuuuugggggg," Atlas was gone, laughing, ringing through the air. He looked over towards Mason again, saying, "I'm coming out now." Atlas whispered, "Not to your parents." Mason was looking away as Jeff got out of the water, wrapping himself. He ran towards Mason. "Do you have my clothes?" Mason looked at him, "Yeah I got your clothes," he looked over to see Jeff right next to him. Mason quickly looked up towards his face, "Here are your clothes." He threw the clothes at Jeff and grabbed the clothes, saying thank you, walked towards the tent, unzipping it as the towel fell off, he jumped into the tent as he re-zipped the tent back up.

"Oh my gosh." he looked toward the tent. "I think you should kiss him," he said, looking behind him to see Death. "What are you doing here?" Death laughed, "Why are you here?" Mason responded, "Because it's fun to see your face get all flustered like you right now." Death guide Mason faced towards the tent, "Come on Mason you both like each other," Mason got up and looked away from Death, walking towards the tent. He looked at the tent zipper, touching it before he moved his hand away, looking on the ground, seeing a towel, and picking it up. He looked up, saying, "It is not right also, why are you in my business?" he looked around, seeing Death's smile disappear. He looked down, seeing the towel on the ground, he picked it up and placed it near the fire. He saw a knife, picked it up, placing it towards his hair. Feeling his worn band still in his hair, remembering when his mother put it in, now almost two months ago.

"You really want me to do your hair?" She said he replied, "Yeah, I want you to do it, I trust you more than anyone I have ever known." Mason remembered her short curly light brown hair, her dark green eyes. Jeff got his clothes on, thinking about Mason as he unzipped it, getting up from the tent, seeing Mason. His thick, locked hair was now gone; his hair was now a large, frizzy afro. Jeff looked at him in wonder. "You changed your hair," Mason walked up to him. "Yeah, I thought about a change of hair, and the old one was worn out anyway." Jeff still just looked at the hair. "Can I touch it?"Mason looked at him. "Sure," Jeff combed his hand through his hair, then looked at Mason, "Thank you." Mason's eyes looked into his eyes.

They watch the fire dance as the smoke goes into the sky, they dodge, making eye contact with each other the whole time. They were around six feet apart. Jeff sighed, looking down, feeling the smooth golden sand beneath him. "I'm sorry for what I said back in prison; it was not cool." Mason scooped sand into his hand, feeling it saying, "I'm also sorry for the way I act, it's just I have been acting like everything was fine. I will be fine, and yet I wasn't. I'm not fine." Jeff moved closer, saying, "I like the person who is when you are being yourself." They smiled and looked at each other. Mason said, "Your gem seems like a diamond really," Jeff thought about it looking down he mumbled "It's a diamond he spoke louder for Mason to hear "A blood diamond." They hugged each other, but it felt wrong. They pulled back, feeling uncomfortable from it, and gave a fake laugh, trying to play it off. Jeff moved his hand towards Mason, but Mason recoiled from it, saying, "I'm going to sleep, it's getting late, we need to be up early tomorrow." Jeff felt cold now, his soul felt cold, and he sighed, looking into the still lake water. Someone from a distance watches upon them, pulling out an arrow, then to the bow, pulling the bow back, aiming at Mason's head, smirking to himself, a rough voice spoke, "Do you want to kill the boy of death, my king?" After a long silence, the king said in his dull voice, "Wait for them to get closer to my place before I do anything." The sharpshooter moved a strain of his long golden hair out of the way, saying, "Your will is out of the way, our emperor."
