Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Chamber Beneath the Bridge

The entrance to the chamber was almost invisible, buried beneath the broken spine of the bridge and hidden behind collapsed stone supports that looked like they had given up long ago. If Rico hadn't told me where to look, I wouldn't have found it.

And something told me that was the point.

The air changed the moment I stepped inside. Not colder, not heavier, older. Ancient in a way that didn't belong to time. Each breath felt like it had been waiting longer than the city itself. Lian followed a step behind me, quieter than usual, and even he felt it,which meant something was wrong.

The chamber wasn't large, but it felt deeper than its size allowed. The walls were carved, not built, uneven, deliberate, shaped with intention rather than tools. In the center stood a pedestal, simple and black, untouched by dust.

Resting above it was a shard.

Blue. Faint. Silent.

The moment I crossed the threshold, it reacted. Not suddenly, not violently, but slowly, like something opening its eyes after a long sleep. Light spread across its surface in soft pulses. Not a warning. Not a defense.

Recognition.

Lian inhaled sharply behind me. "It's responding to you," he said, his voice carrying something new, something closer to certainty than fear.

I didn't answer. My eyes stayed on the shard, because something inside me had already stepped forward.

I moved closer, and each step felt expected, like I wasn't approaching it but returning to something that already knew me. The air shifted. The chamber adjusted. The walls tightened, the silence deepened, as if the space itself was making room for something that had already begun.

I raised my hand slowly. Not because I was afraid, but because something told me this moment mattered.

The closer my fingers came, the stronger the sensation became. Heat, not burning, not painful, but awakening. It spread through my arm, into my chest, into something deeper… something that responded.

For a brief second, I forgot where I was.

Images flickered, not memories, not exactly, but fragments. A structure that didn't exist yet. A sky that hadn't been formed. Seven points of light, connected, not separate, waiting.

I pulled my hand back, and the vision shattered instantly. The shard dimmed, not completely, just enough to remind me it hadn't shown me everything.

Behind it, carved into the stone wall, were words.

Deep. Uneven. Desperate.

But clear.

"Gather the Seven. The Rift Will Be Born."

I read it once, then again, not because I didn't understand, but because something inside me already did.

Lian stepped closer. "What does it mean?" he asked.

I didn't answer. Because the moment I tried, the chamber changed again.

A faint sound came from above, not from the walls, but from outside, from the bridge.

"The rift isn't here."

The voice cut through the silence like it had always been part of it,calm, controlled, certain.

I looked up instinctively. Through the fractured opening above, a silhouette stood along the railing. Still. Watching.

Not Ryan.

Different posture. Different presence.

He wasn't observing the chamber.

He was observing me.

I stepped forward. "Who are you"..

Gone.

No movement. No sound. No trace.

As if the moment I tried to define him, he stopped existing.

Silence returned, but it wasn't the same.

Lian moved beside me. "You saw that too… right?"

I didn't answer. Because my attention wasn't on the bridge anymore.

It was on the shard.

Still glowing. Still watching.

And this time, it didn't feel like it was reacting to me.

It felt like it was waiting.

For something else.

Or someone else.

For the first time, a thought formed in my mind that didn't feel like mine, clear, precise, unwelcome:

"The first has awakened."

It wasn't a message.

It was a confirmation.

I didn't know what it meant.

But something inside me did.

And it wasn't waiting anymore.

It had already started.

Somewhere beyond the chamber…

something else responded.
