Chapter 70 - "After The Door"(70)

**Chapter 70: After the Door**

The blood sky no longer pretended to be weather.

It had become a witness that had finally chosen a side.

**Threshold Site – Aftermath**

Jonah Dudley sat on the cracked ground with the Shinecaster wand lying cold beside him. He had stopped screaming. Now he only stared at the place where Keisha Leister's body had risen again under new ownership.

The Empty stood a few metres away, wearing the second Rampager's corpse like a well-fitted coat. Keisha's face moved, but the expression behind it was older than expression. When The Empty turned its head, the air forgot how to carry sound for a moment.

It spoke without a mouth.

The words arrived directly inside Dudley's skull.

*You opened the door. That is noted.*

Then The Empty walked into the red light and was gone, leaving only the smell of absence and the faint residual crackle of a destroyed Dark Matrix.

Dudley reached for the wand with shaking fingers, then stopped. He no longer trusted what it might open next.

**Abandoned Rail Yards – Redfern Ridge**

Kevin's Rampager Blade met Tobias's claws in a shower of white-blue sparks and black hatred. Wyatt circled left, steel pipe raised, looking for any opening that would not get him killed. Zayelle — still half in the pale death-shape — fought both of them and the Hellhound at once, claws and prophecy and raw violence blurring together.

Tobias was laughing.

"Miss me, Rampager? I missed the part where you thought you finished me."

Kevin answered with a vertical slash that carved a glowing trench through the dirt. Tobias leapt the trench and came down hard enough to crater the ground. Wyatt took the opening and smashed the pipe into the side of the Hellhound's skull. The impact barely staggered him.

Zayelle's white eyes locked on Tobias for a fraction of a second longer than the fight required. Something like recognition — or hunger — moved across her face. The death-shape around her flickered, unstable, as if two different endings were arguing inside one body.

Kevin felt the Matrix scream a warning.

The rail yard was not big enough for the three of them.

**Guardians of Destiny Society – Headquarters**

The main hall had gone very quiet.

Lucifer, Michael, and Lucifer Jr. stood in a loose triangle while the rest of the room pretended not to watch. Koa remained nearby, True Beast spirits coiled under his skin, ready.

Lucifer Jr. broke the silence first.

"The Empty is free. The banshee is losing her shape. The Hellhound is back. And the sky is no longer neutral." He looked at his father. "You already knew this was coming."

Lucifer's smile was thin. "I knew something was coming. I did not know my sister would be the one wearing a teenage girl's corpse."

Michael's wings shifted once. "Blame can wait. Containment cannot. We need every reliable fighter still breathing, and we need them pointed at the correct threats before The Empty decides to stop observing and start erasing."

Across the hall, Nathan arrived with Chien Jen and Torkai. The power absorber's gaze immediately found the medical wing where Zayelle had been held earlier. Torkai simply sniffed the air and muttered something about the whole building smelling like bad decisions and older gods.

Bane's satellites were already screaming new alerts across the holotable.

**Multiple Fronts**

In the hidden lab, Grug continued reading the residual signatures of whoever had built the Monster Wombs and planted the seeds. The trail was older than the blood sky and carefully buried.

Korg and Erik Stormjuger reached the surface shafts and the waiting extraction team, the lion-headed teenager still adjusting to the idea of open sky.

Ignis and Lancelot watched Khalid Ali begin the first serious genetic mapping of Jennifer the body jumper's residual traces, the Kuwaiti night heavy outside the clinic windows.

Jordan Pitas and Rodriguez Hernandez crossed the final stretch into Redfern Ridge, metal limbs and invisibility moving under the same red light that now felt heavier than before.

Bandile Hardere stood on a rooftop overlooking the industrial lot where Sally had fallen, telekinetic pressure rolling off him in quiet, menacing waves as he measured the new weight in the air.

Sebastian Crowe stayed kneeling beside the unconscious Sphinx-form Sally, crystals still humming weakly around them both, waiting for extraction that could not come fast enough.

Benjamin Fabisch sat alone in the ruined English office at Willowbrook High, hands folded, staring at the place where Keisha had vanished with the wand. The telepathic warning he had given her still echoed in the quiet of his own mind. He had seen the brutal shape of her ending. He had not expected it to arrive so quickly, or to wear her body afterward.

**Rail Yards – Turning Point**

Kevin took a claw across the ribs that would have opened a normal person. The Matrix sealed most of it. Wyatt was bleeding from a dozen places and still refused to fall. Zayelle's death-shape surged again, pale and towering for one terrible second, and Tobias met it with pure hatred.

Then a new presence pressed down on the rail yard.

The Empty, wearing Keisha Leister's face, stepped out of a fold of non-colour at the edge of the fight. It observed the banshee, the Hellhound, and the two Rampager survivors the way a scholar might observe insects.

Tobias was the first to react. The Hellhound's burning eyes widened with something that was not quite fear.

Zayelle's white gaze snapped toward the newcomer and held.

Kevin felt the Mythical Matrix go utterly still in his chest, as if even the ancient power that had chosen him was waiting to see what God's sister would do next.

The Empty smiled with Keisha's mouth.

The semi-finale had ended.

The true ending sequence had begun.
