The mountain grew quiet again.
The three cultivators were gone, their presence fading into the distance.
Xu Tian stood still for a moment, watching the direction they had left.
Only when he could no longer feel them did he finally move.
"…That was close," he said quietly.
He looked down at the children.
Both were awake now.
The boy moved slightly, weak but alive.
The girl watched him as always, calm and silent.
Xu Tian adjusted the cloth around them.
"We can't stay here," he said.
This place wasn't safe anymore.
Not after being seen.
He turned and began walking again.
The snow crunched beneath his feet.
But this time, his steps were steadier.
His body felt different.
Lighter.
Stronger.
Not just in strength, but in control.
Xu Tian glanced at his hand.
That feeling was still there.
Faint, but stable.
"…So it stays," he murmured.
It wasn't like before.
It didn't come and go.
Now it felt like a part of him.
He didn't understand it fully.
But he was starting to accept it.
The mountain path narrowed as he moved forward.
The air changed slightly.
Less wild.
More… controlled.
Xu Tian slowed down.
"…Someone's territory," he thought.
That wasn't good.
But it also meant something else.
People lived nearby.
Or at least passed through.
Xu Tian looked ahead.
Far in the distance, barely visible through the snow, something stood against the horizon.
A structure.
Broken.
But still standing.
Xu Tian narrowed his eyes.
"…Ruins."
He hesitated for a moment.
Places like that usually meant danger.
But they also meant shelter.
And possibly answers.
Xu Tian looked down at the children again.
"We don't have a choice," he said quietly.
He changed direction and moved toward it.
Step by step.
As he got closer, the details became clearer.
Stone walls.
Collapsed sections.
Old markings carved into the surface.
Not natural.
Not recent either.
Xu Tian stopped just outside the entrance.
The air around the ruins felt different.
Heavier.
Similar to the feeling from the cultivators.
But older.
More silent.
"…What is this place," he said softly.
No answer came.
Only the wind.
Xu Tian stepped inside.
The moment he crossed the entrance, the feeling inside him shifted slightly.
Not stronger.
But… reacting.
Xu Tian's expression changed.
"…So it reacts to this place too."
He looked around slowly.
The ruins were empty.
At least on the surface.
But the feeling didn't go away.
If anything, it grew steadier.
Xu Tian tightened his hold on the children.
"…We'll rest here," he said.
But he didn't relax.
Not completely.
Because for the first time
It didn't feel like something was watching him.
It felt like something was waiting.
