Chapter 10 - Rewards

Lin Yan also remained calm and said, "I should thank the leader for the Liquor Worm. Without it, the Fire Line Gu alone wouldn't have been enough to break through the beast king's skull."

Shan Xia raised her eyebrows slightly, feeling that she had not made a wrong choice. He was hardworking, talented, and not arrogant. She smiled and said, "Calling me 'leader' is too formal. We are both from the Shan Family. If you don't mind, you can call me Elder Sister."

Lin Yan understood her meaning. Shan Xia was also very beautiful, so there was no loss in calling her that. He changed his tone at once. "Thank you, Elder Sister."

"This beast king was mostly killed by you," Shan Xia said as she looked at the large corpse in the distance. "You can handle it."

Hearing this, the surrounding Gu Masters showed clear envy. The beast king Lin Yan killed was almost intact, so it held the most value. The other three corpses were damaged, and most of the Gu on them were likely destroyed.

Lin Yan also felt excited. He hadn't expected to gain the most from this attack. This would greatly speed up his growth. His luck was indeed good.

Shan Shayuan laughed and said, "Not bad, kid. You deserve this."

Soon, under his uncle's guidance, Lin Yan began collecting the spoils. He found four intact Gu from different parts of the beast king's body. Then he carefully removed the hide, took the meat, and stored the bones.

The Fierce Flame Wolf itself was a Flame Path material and could be used as food for many Gu, so it had good value. The four Gu were even more valuable. Even a normal Rank 1 Flame Path Gu could sell for two to three hundred primeval stones.

He obtained three Rank 1 Gu—Fire Coal Gu, Fire Smoke Gu, and Gentle Fire Gu—and one Rank 2 Streaming Fire Gu.

Including the corpse, the total value was about two thousand five hundred primeval stones. Lin Yan's heart beat faster. He had gained a huge amount in a short time.

A Rank 1 logistics Gu Master like him would normally earn around five hundred stones in half a year. This was equal to more than two years of income. The best part was that these Flame Path Gu suited him well and could be used directly.

At this moment, Shan Shayuan spoke, "I don't suggest you keep all of them."

"First, your cultivation is still low. You can't properly use so many strong Gu, especially a Rank 2 one."

"Second, most of these Gu are not part of the Shan Family's Flame Path inheritance."

They are not very flexible, and their future growth is limited. It will be hard to replace them later. And you won't be able to afford to raise them. Some of them need rare food.

Shan Shayuan gave an example. "Take Fire Smoke Gu. It's a concealment-type Gu. When used, it releases a large amount of fire smoke.

For normal Gu Masters, it stands out too much. But for Flame Path users, it works well with large flames. The problem is its food. It needs smoke from a volcanic eruption."

"We don't have volcanoes here. Even if we did, how long would you have to wait for one to erupt?"

Lin Yan thought about it. It was true, some of these Gu were too specialized. Gentle Fire Gu reduced the power of flames and was usually used by Refinement Path Gu Masters. Its cost was also high.

The Rank 2 Streaming Fire Gu was powerful, but it used a lot of primeval essence and needed meteor fire to feed it. Overall, they were not suitable for him.

Shan Shayuan continued, "I suggest you keep the Fire Coal Gu and sell the rest. This one is cheap to maintain. It only needs normal charcoal, and its effect is very useful. It's a support-type Gu."

"It can reduce the primeval essence cost of your other Rank 1 Flame Path Gu by half. It's like giving the flame something to rely on, making it last much longer and our Shan Family also has a method to advance it."

Lin Yan agreed without hesitation. His uncle had experience. Without guidance, he would likely keep all the Gu for short-term strength, only to struggle later when he couldn't afford to maintain them.

At first, it would feel like a gain, but after a few months, he would be forced to sell them anyway, wasting resources. Selling them was simple. The caravan would buy them at market price. Flame Path Gu were always in demand.

Shan Xia looked at the Streaming Fire Gu and said, "Luckily you killed it quickly. If that beast king had broken through, it could have caused losses."

Lin Yan gained about two thousand three hundred primeval stones. With what he already had, his total was now quite high.

It was not easy to carry so many stones. Storage Gu started at Rank 2, but they had many drawbacks. Only Rank 3 ones were truly practical.

For now, he could only carry them with him. Fortunately, after killing a large number of Flame Wolves, the caravan was covered in their blood scent. Other wolf packs would not dare approach.

The rest of the journey was safe. After crossing the Flame Wolf Desert, there would be an oasis where he could trade and spend his stones.

About five days later, the caravan reached the edge of the Red Willow Oasis. From a distance, the green oasis looked like an emerald in the middle of a golden desert, full of life.

Lin Yan looked into his aperture. Six Gu floated inside, already more than what most Rank 1 Gu Masters had.
