Chapter 192 - Chapter 192: The Vanished Ivan, Heading to New Mexico

"Long time no see, Agent Maria."

Glancing at Gwen and Felicia beside him, Peter's eyes darted around, choosing not to stand up and walk to a distance to answer the call.

His little tactic expectedly played its part; hearing the distinctly feminine name "Maria," both girls subconsciously perked up their ears.

While the two were eavesdropping on the conversation, Hill couldn't resist吐槽-ing over the phone because of Peter's ridiculous phrasing:

"If a certain someone still remembered his duties as Director, then we ought to be seeing each other every day."

Her words carried a faintly aggrieved undertone. Her cold, mature woman's voice, coupled with the keyword "every day," caused Gwen and Felicia to subconsciously exchange a glance, a sense of crisis instantly welling up in their hearts.

Previously, they thought their only competitors were each other, but looking at it now, their thoughts were a bit too naive. The flock of birds around Peter clearly didn't stop at just the two of them, and there would only be more in the future...

When external pressure is strong enough, forming an internal alliance becomes an almost natural choice.

The two girls reached a consensus almost instantly. Sorting things out internally between best friends was still a hundred times better than letting an outsider step in to catch a share, right?

Watching the girls' subtle movements, Peter secretly laughed in his heart, yet maintained a boisterous front on the outside:

"Am I not simply trusting in your and Phil's working capabilities? Honestly, when that black braised egg was in office before, wasn't his daily work just drinking coffee in that office of his anyway?"

"Wow, that makes so much sense, I'm actually unable to refute it." Hill rolled a massive white eye across the line.

"Alright, back to business. What exactly is the unmanageable matter that prompted you to contact me suddenly?"

Hearing Peter ask about business, Hill's voice instantly recovered its usual crisp efficiency:

"The personnel found something that fell from the sky in the desert of New Mexico... an, uh... hammer?"

As she spoke, Hill sent over a multimedia message. The picture impressively depicted Mjolnir, which Peter had just seen not long ago.

The plotline of Thor descending to Earth was finally about to begin? This was an excellent opportunity to reap some benefits. Whether it was the Casket of Ancient Winters, that Destroyer armor, or Loki's own royal Frost Giant bloodline, they were all good things.

Only, was there something not quite right? If he remembered correctly, shouldn't the plotline of Iron Man 2 have occurred first before Thor's descent? Where did that "Marvel Sylas" go—the one who dared to challenge Tony with just two small leather whips bound to him?

While Peter was contemplating Ivan Vanko's whereabouts, Hill also finished roughly explaining the matter regarding Mjolnir.

The situation was largely identical to the movie; Agent Coulson had already led a team to seal off the site, and the process was unbelievably smooth without any factions coming to disrupt the scene.

Having grasped the cause and effects of the matter from Hill, Peter decisively resolved to take over this incident:

"I know the origin of this hammer. I will personally handle this matter."

"In addition, help me look up a person."

"Who?" Hill asked.

"Ivan Vanko. I need his detailed file."

"Received, the file will be sent to you later."

After hanging up the phone, Gwen and Felicia's curiosity could no longer be held back:

"Peter, did something happen?"

"Remember, Thor, the God of Thunder from the parallel universe whom I beat? The Thor of this universe has descended to Earth."

"Emmm..." Gwen revealed a slightly bizarre expression, "So, is he about to become a pig's head again?"

"His treatment this time should be a bit better than last time... But no matter what, I'll have to take a trip to New Mexico."

"Then what about college?"

"You two decide," Peter's gaze swept warmly across the two girls. "Which college we go to isn't important. What matters is that my college life has you two in it. That's enough."

A sweet line instantly struck the softest spot in Gwen and Felicia's hearts, the sweetness immediately dispelling the slight unpleasantness from just now.

"Oh, right," before leaving, Peter looked toward Felicia and asked, "During the time we weren't in this universe, did that fellow Tony already finish holding his Stark Expo?"

"That's right," Felicia replied. "The expo was held very successfully. The generation-two Unicorn and new energy vehicles showcased by your Parker Technologies at the expo even became the focus of the entire venue."

"Did anything unexpected happen? For instance, a lunatic crashing the venue wanting to perish together with Tony or something?" Peter couldn't help but ask.

Felicia lost her smile and shook her head:

"Why would you ask that? The entire expo was peaceful and calm; nothing unexpected happened at all."

This was truly strange! Could it be that Ivan Vanko had truly undergone human evaporation?

Peter left the cafe carrying his doubts. Since Gwen and Felicia still needed to consider which college to attend, Peter didn't plan to bring them along for this New Mexico trip.

Not long after he walked out, Hill's call came through once more:

"Director, if the person you wanted to inquire about is the son of Anton Vanko, who once worked with Howard Stark... I regret to inform you that he is dead."

"Dead?!" Peter couldn't resist raising his pitch. "How did he die?"

"The death certificate issued by a Moscow hospital shows he died of alcohol poisoning."

"Moscow? That fellow didn't run over to America?"

"Within the immigration system, there are absolutely no records regarding him."

"Alright then..."

After ending the call with Hill, Peter subconsciously fell into deep thought. This gave off the feeling of a butterfly effect triggered by himself, but Peter always felt that matters weren't that simple.

According to past experiences, this world had always brought him whatever trouble it could manage; for a minor boss to simply vanish out of thin air like this, the situation felt highly anomalous no matter how one looked at it.

Behind this, was there an invisible hand plucking the strings of fate? Had Ivan Vanko truly died? Into whose hands did his primitive Arc Reactor technology fall?

"Forget it, no point thinking about what can't be figured out."

Because he truly couldn't wrap his head around it, Peter simply gave up thinking. Although the Arc Reactor technology was precious, it didn't count as any major threat to his current self.

Even if that fellow or someone else ultimately engineered a robot army to deal with him and Tony, he had the confidence to resolve the crisis based on his own raw strength.

Therefore, rather than pondering over those things, it was better to head to New Mexico first to play with those two brothers. Mmh~ and along the way, use the Destroyer to test out the power of Haymaker.

Thinking like this, Peter decisively pulled out his flying glider from his storage ring. Stepping onto his flying glider, Peter immediately set off, speeding rapidly toward New Mexico.

Relying on the Mach-level flight speed of the glider, Peter quickly arrived in New Mexico and established contact with Phil.

At the exact same time Peter arrived in New Mexico, Thor woke up inside the hospital. Looking at the patient gown on his body, and then thinking about how he had thoroughly lost contact with his beloved Mjolnir, Thor couldn't resist emitting a sorrowful wail:

"No~~~!!!"
