Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Weight of Sight

‎The wind moved differently that day.

‎It did not howl, nor did it whisper it was sound less. It simply existed pressing faintly against the skin, carrying with it the scent of iron and scorched earth. The battlefield of the mithril mine had grown quiet, but it was not the quiet of peace It was the kind that followed violence the kind that waited.

‎Soldiers stood scattered across the uneven ground, their armor scratched, their breaths uneven Some leaned on their weapons, others remained still watching no one spoke Not because they had nothing to say but because something in the air told them this moment was not theirs to interrupt

‎At the center of it all stood two figures

‎Alex and Theo.

‎The distance between them was not far, yet it felt immeasurable, eyes fixed at each other.

‎Theo adjusted his stance slightly the movement small, almost insignificant but those watching felt it. The change in the surrounding. Whatever casual ease that had once lingered around him was gone. What stood now was something sharper. Colder,Serious.

‎Alex exhaled slowly, his fingers tightening around the shaft of the spear he held. It was not a remarkable weapon just standard issue but in his grip, it felt like the only thing anchoring him to the ground beneath his feet.

‎His eyes remained fixed and focused on Theo.

‎No distractions,No thoughts,Only focus.Then

‎Theo moved, there was no warning,no dramatic wind up, one moment he stood still the next, he was already there,a sharp sound split the air steel cutting through space with terrifying precision Alex reacted Or rather his mind did.

‎First seal, seal of concentration open

‎The words did not echo loudly yet something change the world slowed he could see everything Not truly but enough Theo's movement unfolded before him like a pattern he could see it all Every change of weight every angle of attack every line of motionit was all clear

‎Too clear

‎Alex saw the strike aimed at his shoulder. He saw the exact path it would take. He knew, knew how to avoid it.

‎But yet his body

‎Could not process what his eyes and mind saw, then the blade struck.

‎A sharp impact vibrated through him forcing him back a step as pain flared across his side,a murmur rippled through the watching soldiers, theo did not pause, another step,Another strike, Faster cleaner than the last,Alex's eyes tracked it instantly,Too fast, too direct no angle slightly left counter with his muscles lagged behind the thought. The second hit was true, and the third followed Each blow more precise than the last Each movement controlled There was no wild aggression in Theos attacks only efficiency Like a blade that already knew where it would cut.Alex gritted his teeth, forcing his body to respond. His spear lifted barely in time to deflect the next strike. The clash rang out, sharp and sudden, the vibration running down his arms For a moment just a moment he matched it theos eyes narrowed slightly, Then he disappeared again, A change in the wind a presence at his flank, alex turned too slow Impact, the force sent him stumbling across the uneven ground boots scraping against broken stone dust rose around him as he stopped himself, his breath tightened in his chest, his vision remained sharp too sharp He could see everything nothing escaped his gaze and yet It didn't matter, he sees it the voice came from behind the line of soldiers vald stood there unmoving his gaze fixed entirely on alex but his body cannot follow there was no judgment in his tone only observation alex steadied his footing his grip tightened, His breathing grew heavier, uneven no he could not stop here If he could see it then he could reach it he had to

‎Theo stepped forward again, this time slower not because he needed to be but because he was watching. Measuring you understand it theo said quietly his voice carried just enough to reach alex and no one else but understanding is not enough

‎He moved, faster than before. Alex's eyes widened slightly as the world snapped into clarity once more there the opening. the path. He moved forcing his body forward muscles strained something in his arm protested sharply as he raised the spear pushing it into position this time the strike missed a narrow dodge too narrow but it worked a flicker of surprise crossed Theo's face Just for a moment alex stepped in thrusting the spear forward his movement unrefined but driven theo deflected it easily, but the fact remained he had responded the air changed once more this time heavier alex pushed further again, and again. Each movement tearing slightly more from his body each step slower than his mind demanded his breathing broke into sharp uneven bursts his muscles screamed under the strain still he moved until theo ended it a single clean strike precise controlled, Final. The impact knocked the spear from Alex's grasp. It spun once before striking the ground with a dull clang, silence fell.

‎Alex remained standing but barely his chest rose and fell rapidly, his arms hanging heavier than before the world, once sharp and clear, began to blur at the edges as the strain of the seal weighed down on him theo lowered his blade, he said nothing, there was nothing to say.

‎Around them, the soldiers stood frozen not in awe of victory but in quiet realization, they had seen it even if only for a moment alex had kept up a step forward broke the stillness, vald.

‎His presence alone completely changed the weight of the moment, the faint wind seemed to bend slightly around him as he approached, his gaze resting on Alex not with praise but with something heavier, recognition,You're no longer just a soldier, his voice was calm, absolute.

‎Alex lifted his head slightly, forcing his focus back despite the fatigue pressing down on him, a pause. Then from this moment, vald's eyes did not waver you lead

‎The words settled into the air not loud, not grand but stronger than anything spoken that day a change moved through the gathered soldiers, not confusion, not protest.

‎Acknowledgment.

‎You will command a Vanguard Unit

‎Alex said nothing but something within him had completely changed before the moment could settle footsteps fast. Urgent.

‎A soldier broke through the line, armor still dusted from travel, breath uneven as he dropped to one knee before Vald.

‎Sir vald orders from the King the battlefield stilled once more vald took the message. His eyes scanned it briefly once, that was enough. For the first time, something in his expression had changed,Not shock,ot concern.but focus.A movement toward something greater,he lowered the message the wind stirred again this time carrying something new movement, Prepare yourselves his voice cut through the air cleanly no hesitation no doubt. we move and just like that the stillness broke

‎the war had begun to turn
