Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: the tenth

The 10th Division briefing hall was louder than Elias expected. Usually, the bases carried a heavy silence—the quiet of people who'd seen too much. But today, victory was in the air, and the energy was electrical.

Elias stood near the back, hands in his jacket pockets, scanning the crowd. He recognized some from trails, but others were grizzled veterans.

"Still standing, huh?"

He turned. Mikasa. She was leaning against the wall, arms folded, looking as sharp and mysterious as she had during the entrance exams.

"I was about to say the same," Elias replied. "Didn't expect Division 10."

"Elite units attract trouble," she said with a faint smile. "Or maybe we attract it."

Before he could respond, a quiet murmur spread. A young man stepped forward, his dark hair tied back, wearing uniform stitching that marked him as part of the team

"That's Renji Hoshikawa," Nyx whispered, nudging Elias, his from the star eyes clan,I don't know much about the clan but still deadly."

Renji gave a polite nod. "No need to stare. I'm just another guy here."

"Yeah," Vela muttered, still chewing on a snack nearby. "A soldier whose eyes probably see my bad decisions before I make them."

As the laughter died down, Nyx pulled Elias toward the corner where the rest of the 10th stood. "You haven't met the full roster yet, Elias. If we're going to survive this job, you need to know who's got your back."

She pointed to a girl sitting on a crate, sharpening a serrated combat knife. "That's Sloane Vex. Our medic. She has a Cellular Knit Evolith—she can heal you, but she'll probably insult you while she does it."

Next to her were two guys deep in a tactical debate. "The tall one is Kaelen flare And laughing is Jaxen Reed.

The 10th Division was complete: Elias, Mikasa, Renji, Nyx, Vela, Rook, Cipher, Sloane, Kaelen, and Jax. Ten soldiers, one unit.

The doors hissed open. Captain Drayke Void entered, but he wasn't alone. Beside him stood Captain Gideon Reid-Sallow of the 1st Division. Behind them marched the "Aegis Prime" squad—the five most elite, soldiers in the first division

Valerius flare, the squad leader, radiated a blinding light from his skin, Beside him was Seraphina Glass, looking down her nose at the 10th while her Mirror duplicates flickered. Kaelen "The Wall" Vance stood like an immovable mountain of silver, followed by the quiet Julian Cross and the tracker, Elena Voss.

"The 1st will handle heavy suppression," Valerius stated, his voice dripping with pride. "The 10th... try to stay out of the way. We don't need 'amateurs' tripping over our cloaks."

"Listen up," Void barked, ignoring the insult. "Joint op. Alien activity is rising and people have been disappearing lately between sector 6 and 7 Nyx, Mikasa, and Vela—you guys visit 6 I'll send the coordinates . Renji and Elias—go to the sector 7 , Rook and Cipher—try to get information about the kidnapper",

While they prepped, Zane sat in a dark room miles away, waiting for someone finally the person arrived wearing a black hoodie, "you're late Zane said, well I hope you understand this mission, it might cause you your life are you sure you want to accept it , "yes , I'll accept it " the mysterious man replied with confidence"alright get going ". Zane replied.

The 10th Division briefing hall had just emptied, orders given, teams separated. Elias was paired with Renji, tasked with tracking "the Napper" and other alien targets in Sector 7. Nyx, Mikasa, and Vela were sent to Sector 6, while Rook, Cipher, and others prepared to secure civilians.

Elias and Renji moved swiftly through the ruined streets of Sector 7, scanning alleyways and rooftops. The city had become a skeleton of neon towers and shattered glass, smoke curling from fire-scorched buildings which were been reconstructed. The quiet tension of the streets was deceptive; something massive had been stalking them for hours.

"Keep your head in the game," Renji said, his Star Eyes glowing faintly, scanning for movement. "Whatever's hunting the border—it's organized. This isn't just a scout."

Elias nodded, fists tight around his weapons. Purpose, not fear, thrummed through his veins.

The tremor hit first—a heavy quake from underground. Then it appeared. Eight feet tall, fused muscle and armor, veins of glowing white light tracing jagged patterns across its chest. Its eyes blazed with predatory intelligence, hunting them like prey.

Renji and Elias froze for a moment,

Elias moved first. He didn't hesitate, phasing forward, afterimages scattering across the street, testing the alein reaction. Renji followed, leaping to a rooftop for vantage. Together, they formed a circle of attack, probing openings.

The Alien struck—a crushing blow that shattered the concrete beneath them. Elias rolled through, mirrored Renji's angles instinctively, slashing at armored joints. Sparks erupted with every connection.

Renji's fists slammed into the Alpha's back as he dropped from the roof, staggering it. "Got a weak spot there!" he shouted. Elias lunged, exploiting the opening.

Division 1 Observes

Above, the elite Aegis Prime squad watched from the rooftops and holographic feeds. Valerius' Solar Flare radiated light across the battlefield, his power raw and commanding. Beside him, Kaelen's blue flames traced elegant arcs, slower but precise. Seraphina Glass flickered multiple mirror duplicates, prepared to confuse or block attacks. Julian Cross analyzed patterns, while Elena Voss tracked civilian movement to ensure no one got caught in the chaos.

"They're young," Valerius said, smirking. "But coordinated. I'll give them that."

While Elias and Renji fought, Nyx, Mikasa, and Vela spotted figures darting between rubble—humans moving crates of fluid-filled canisters, glowing faintly with some kind of energy.

"There," Mikasa whispered. "They're up to something, shouldn't we check it out".

Nyx growled. "We'll deal with them… later. Right now, keep eyes on Elias and Renji. That Alein isn't going to wait."

Vela muttered, "Something about this feels wrong… they're organized, almost professional."

Then Mikasa ran off to check it out

"Wait...." Then NYX and Vela followed.

Battle Escalates

The Alien slammed a fist into the street, debris flying everywhere. Elias vaulted onto a fallen beam, rolling midair to land behind it. His afterimages flitted across the street, striking the joints of the creature's legs. Renji struck from above, fists glowing with 2edge star eyes,

The Alien pivoted, swinging both arms. Elias mirrored Renji's attacks instinctively, moving faster than thought, learning with each strike. Its blows tore the asphalt and shattered walls, but Elias' body adapted, muscles remembering angles, speed, and timing.

Renji called out openings, Elias struck. Every dodge, block, and strike sharpened him mid-fight. Sparks, white energy, and the sound of splintering concrete echoed around them.

The creature screamed, a bone-rattling sound, swinging wildly. Elias jumped, rolling, slashing upward, hitting reinforced tendons connecting its armor. The Alpha staggered, but it was learning too, adjusting its attacks in real-time.

Renji grinned mid-jump. "You're catching up fast!"

Elias shot back: "I am catching up."

The Alpha's eyes blazed. Every step, every swipe, every roar was a test—and Elias' body evolved instinctively in response. Each dodge was cleaner, each strike more precise, as if the fight itself was teaching him.

Renji and Elias moved in perfect sync. One distracted, the other struck. One jumped, the other mirrored the angle. Together, they began reading the Alpha's moves before it made them.

"You're a good partner," Renji said, landing beside him on the street.

Elias nodded, sweat and grime covering his face. "You're not bad either."

The bond was forged in the chaos of battle. Mutual trust, instinctive understanding, and pure skill.

After minutes that felt like hours, repeated strikes, and dodges, the Alien faltered. Sparks flew from cracks in its armor as its white energy pulsed violently. Its massive fists missed again and again, slowed by fatigue and repeated hits.

Elias realized: I can evolve. I adapt. Every strike, every dodge, every motion… my body is becoming something more than human.

Renji noticed it too. "You're… reading it now. Not just reacting. You're anticipating."

"Feels like… instinct," Elias muttered, landing another precise strike to the Alpha's shoulder.

Climax: Alpha Falls

The Alpha roared one final time, then staggered, destabilized by combined attacks. Sparks and white energy flickered across its body.

"Finish it!" Elias shouted.

Renji and Elias leapt together, striking from opposite sides, perfectly mirrored. The Alpha convulsed, then collapsed, dissolving in a burst of white energy.

The streets fell silent, smoke curling, debris everywhere.
