Genido remained standing beside the tables. The laboratory had become silent once more. His vanished creations occupied every thought inside his mind. The red light was gone. The phenomenon had ended. Yet the feeling it left behind refused to disappear. The silence lasted only a few moments. Then another sound broke it. The sharp screech of car brakes. Far below the laboratory. Outside the hospital. Juson's car stopped abruptly near the entrance. The instant the vehicle came to a halt, both doors opened. Juson and Hakiten stepped outside almost simultaneously. Unlike Juson, Hakiten did not hesitate. He moved forward immediately. As fast as his injured body would allow. His destination was clear. The hospital hallway. Juson followed several seconds later. His pace was slower. Something had caught his attention. Police cars. Several of them. Parked around the hospital. The sight bothered him. But he did not stop. He quickly entered the building.
Before he could reach the hallway, somebody emerged from it. Yokina. She hurried towards them. Within moments the three gathered together. "Come with me." Her voice carried urgency. Neither Juson nor Hakiten argued. Hakiten immediately followed her. Juson intended to do the same. Then someone called his name. He stopped. A police officer approached him. Before turning back, Juson looked towards Yokina. "Take Hakiten to the room." Yokina nodded. Both of them continued ahead. For them, reaching Wanna was more important than anything else. Juson turned towards the officer. As he moved closer, recognition appeared in his eyes. It was the same officer who had visited his house after the maid incident. The officer spoke immediately. "We found the maid."
For a brief moment Juson said nothing. The words caught him off guard. He had witnessed the maid turn into blue dust. Yet he could not reveal that. Not here. Not now. So he acted as though he knew nothing. "Where did you find her?" The officer lowered his head. "We found clothes caught in bushes near the river." Juson instantly remembered throwing those clothes into the water. The officer continued. "After searching the area for several hours, we found a body." He paused. "It had blood stains. Multiple stab wounds." Murder. The meaning behind those words was obvious. The officer nodded once. Juson quickly changed the subject. "What are you searching for inside the hospital?"
This time the officer looked at him carefully. "Did you read today's newspaper?" "No." The answer came immediately. The officer remained silent for several seconds. Then he removed a photograph from his pocket. He handed it to Juson. The moment Juson looked at the image, recognition struck him. The man in the photograph was familiar. Very familiar. One of the doctors connected to Genido. "The doctor who examined my son." The officer frowned. "That isn't his job." Juson looked back at him. "What does he actually do?" The officer folded the photograph. "He only works with childbirth and pregnant women."
Before Juson could ask another question, a familiar voice called him. Yokina. She stood further down the hallway waiting for him. Juson gave the officer one final glance. Then he turned away and hurried towards her. Behind him another policeman approached the officer. The two immediately began discussing something. Although Juson continued walking, parts of their conversation reached him. They had searched the entire city. They had not found the doctor. The second officer suggested expanding the search into neighbouring cities. The first officer remained silent. Then he nodded. Without another word, both policemen left the hospital together. Outside, an ordinary vehicle waited for them. Within moments it disappeared down the road.
Meanwhile Juson and Yokina continued towards Wanna's room. For several seconds neither spoke. Then Yokina finally broke the silence. "Hakiten has lost his mind." Juson frowned. "What do you mean?" "He wants to kill someone." Juson waited for an explanation. None came. Yokina simply continued walking. "You should hear it yourself." A few moments later they reached the room. The door stood partially open. Juson stepped inside. Hakiten was there. Collapsed beside Wanna's bed. The body remained covered. Silent. Still. Hakiten slowly lifted his head. His eyes were red. Not from crying. Something else burned inside them. For several seconds nobody spoke. Then Hakiten finally broke the silence. "I have to kill him" His gaze shifted towards Juson. And the next words left his mouth without hesitation. "We have to kill him together."
