Chapter 50 - Old Papers

"Herik." Juson stood beside the open car door. He smiled faintly before asking Herik to make some space for Yokina. Instead of moving immediately, Herik picked up the same yellow paper once again. He stretched it towards Juson. "What are these?" Juson's expression froze. His eyes remained fixed on the paper for several silent seconds. Without answering immediately, he slowly took it from Herik's hands. "They're old papers." He folded the sheet once. "They're supposed to be thrown away." His eyes then drifted towards the floor of the car. Several more papers remained scattered near the footrest. "Help me collect them." Herik simply nodded. Neither of them spoke while they gathered the papers. One after another. Within only a few moments every loose sheet had been collected into Juson's hands.

Holding the small bundle, Juson looked around the front yard. Not far away stood a dustbin beside the boundary wall. He had already decided what to do. Just then... He heard footsteps. Yokina was coming outside. Without wasting another second, Juson walked quickly towards the dustbin and dropped every paper inside. The bundle disappeared beneath other discarded waste. By the time he stepped away from it, Yokina had already reached the car. The rear door still remained open. Herik quietly waited inside. At first, Yokina couldn't find Juson. Her eyes searched around the yard until they finally settled on him standing beside the front bonnet of the car. She almost called his name. But stopped herself.

Juson calmly walked back towards the vehicle. He entered through the driver's side and settled into his seat. Looking towards Yokina, he asked quietly, "Can we go?" Yokina closed the rear door. "Make it quick." Juson gave no reply. He started the engine. The familiar vibration spread through the vehicle. Moments later, the car rolled out through the front gate and entered the road. For a while, nobody inside spoke. The streets passed quietly outside the windows. Then... Instead of turning towards the right side of the road as usual... Juson turned the steering wheel towards the left. Towards the place... ...where the deceased people lived.
