Chapter 21: Does Tony Want to Raise a Dog?
After a good night's sleep, Lan Xingyu's energy was back to full. It was another day full of hope. (For those brothers and sisters who know where this line comes from, if you went back to that era, would you... still save her?) Lan Xingyu stretched, went out to wash up, and ate. He finished the whole routine cleanly and efficiently.
The reason was simple: today was the day Lan Xingyu would start raising a cat. He sat at the computer and opened monster hunter (I didn't make a typo; those who know, know. These are all painful realizations). He began his New World journey.
Just as Lan Xingyu was playing to his heart's content, Tony came up from the laboratory. He had come up for breakfast.
He watched Lan Xingyu play the game while eating breakfast. Seeing how energetic Lan Xingyu was while playing, Tony realized Lan Xingyu's age once again.
Honestly, unless Lan Xingyu was intentionally acting cute, his daily interactions always made people forget his age. This was why Tony treated Lan Xingyu as a friend back in the cave. It was also why he didn't mind when Lan Xingyu used a somewhat preachy tone, and why he would even think about whether what Lan Xingyu said was more correct.
Looking at the child playing so happily in front of him, this was how he should be.
Tony suddenly felt a bit guilty. He had promised others that he would take good care of Lan Xingyu, but what about now? He had been the one constantly receiving help from Lan Xingyu.
First was the metal from Asgard; he didn't care how much money Tony gave him, he just gave it all to him when he needed it. Then, every time he was in danger during an experiment, he would appear to help him. Further on, there was that moment he pushed Pepper Potts; that didn't just help Pepper Potts make up her mind, it also helped him make up his own, and clarified his feelings for Pepper Potts. And then there was the daily Spell treatment for his palladium poisoning...
Tony suddenly wanted to slap himself. What had he been doing all this time? Tony wanted to make amends. He wanted to first find out what Lan Xingyu actually liked. Was it games?
But Tony felt embarrassed to ask directly and wanted to be roundabout, so Tony said: "Lan Xingyu, you're playing monster hunter! How is it going now? Where have you reached?"
"Tony, you know about monster hunter too? I'm currently fighting the Pukei-Pukei. Do you have any Secret Manual or something?" Lan Xingyu said without turning his head. He had no choice; he was currently being chased everywhere by the Pukei-Pukei and was in despair!
"I just know about it, I haven't played it. By the way, Xingyu, why do you like playing this game?" Tony began to bait Lan Xingyu.
"Me? Of course, it's because you can raise pets here! Look at my cat, isn't it as cute as me?"
Lan Xingyu likes raising pets? That makes things easy.
"It just so happens that I want to raise a pet to change my mood lately. Xingyu, why don't you recommend one!" Tony felt his plan was about to succeed.
"You want to raise a pet? You aren't just having a whim, right? Don't wait until you don't want to raise it anymore and dump it on someone else. Or feed it and then ignore it? You have to think this through." Lan Xingyu noticed his character had died, so he left the keyboard and said to Tony.
"If you stop raising it halfway through, I will despise you for the rest of my life." Lan Xingyu said.
Lan Xingyu also found it strange. There was no time in the movie where Tony wanted to raise a pet, right? Strange? Could it be my butterfly effect?
"Rest assured, no problem! I really like animals too!" Tony said affirmatively.
"Alright, tell me what type you want to raise? A cat or a dog?" Lan Xingyu asked.
"A dog! I have more of a connection with dogs. It needs to be handsome and energetic. If it could have some traits that are like mine, that would be even better." Tony said thoughtfully.
Hearing Tony's requirements, Lan Xingyu fell into deep thought. A Teddy, the "Teddy-Sun-Heaven"? No, it has some traits like Tony, but it's not handsome. Suddenly, a flash of lightning crossed Lan Xingyu's mind. Lan Xingyu revealed his scheming, triumphant smile once again.
Lan Xingyu changed his expression and said to Tony: "How about a Husky? How is it? It's a Siberian sled dog, rumored to have wolf bloodlines; it's energetic and very handsome."
"A Husky? Jarvis, pull up some photos of a Husky." Tony said to Jarvis.
Jarvis quickly produced a few photos. They happened to be handsome photos of the derpy Husky.
As soon as Tony saw them, he felt a connection with this dog. He said to Jarvis: "Jarvis, go place an order for me. Buy me one that was born recently, the bloodline must be pure, you know? The purer, the better."
"Understood, sir. I'll go do that now."
Lan Xingyu suddenly called out to Tony: "Tony, have you decided? An average person can't afford to raise a Husky!"
"Hahaha! Am I an average person? I am Tony Stark! Even if that dog tears my whole house apart, I won't blame him. So please don't look at me with the eyes of you Mortals. Hahahaha, I'm leaving." Tony found it a bit funny. Who am I? Even if I jumped into the sea or died outside, I wouldn't care. Hmph.
Watching Tony leave, Lan Xingyu said to Jarvis: "Um, Jarvis, find someone to help me change the door to my room, change it to iron... uh no, change it to an alloy door, thanks. As fast as possible. Preferably get it done before the dog arrives."
"Very well, Mr. Xingyu, the renovation crew is already on the way."
Sure enough, not long after, the renovation crew arrived. Perhaps knowing this was Tony's house, they moved even faster. It was installed before noon!
Now Lan Xingyu was relieved. And what made him happy was that the Husky arrived just as they finished lunch.
Lan Xingyu and Tony went together to welcome the new member of the household. A black and white Husky.
Must say, Huskies are actually quite cute when they are young. Blue eyes with black rings around them; at a glance, they actually look quite handsome.
Worthy of being the appearance traded for intelligence, Lan Xingyu thought, watching the Husky frolicking on the grass.
Tony named the Husky Panda, saying it was because this guy looked quite like a Panda, except for its size. So he chose this name.
Just as they caught the derpy Husky that was having a blast outside and brought it home, Pepper Potts arrived. Tony called Pepper Potts to the laboratory. Lan Xingyu roughly knew what Tony was going to say.
So, Lan Xingyu left a small surveillance Spell in the house. He wanted Tony to truly recognize what kind of person Obadiah was. Although in the original work he luckily obtained the first-generation Arc Reactor that Pepper Potts gave her, for safety's sake, Lan Xingyu felt it was better to have an eye in the house. Then, he placed the first-generation Arc Reactor he took from Tony's laboratory in the place where he played games. This happened to be a blind spot; one couldn't see it at all when coming in or going out.
Just as he finished these things, Tony brought Pepper Potts upstairs.
Tony said to Lan Xingyu: "Xingyu, I want to ask you for a favor. Protect Pepper Potts for one day today; I have a plan. Also, try not to hurt Obadiah; I want to talk to him personally."
Lan Xingyu didn't ask what the plan was and agreed: "Mm, I understand."
Before heading out with Pepper Potts, he said to Tony: "By the way, I put the gift you gave me earlier on the table where I play games."
Then, he and Pepper Potts got into the car and drove toward Stark Industries.
Along the way, seeing Pepper Potts looking a bit nervous, Lan Xingyu comforted her: "Rest assured, Sister Potts, I am very strong. With me here, no one can hurt you." Lan Xingyu said confidently.
"Thank you, Xingyu, I feel much better." Pepper Potts knew that Tony would have Xingyu come to protect her, which meant Xingyu had the ability to do so.
Arriving at the company, Lan Xingyu and Pepper Potts went straight to Tony's office. Pepper Potts began operating the computer, while Lan Xingyu stood near the door, seemingly playing with things on the cabinet, but actually keeping watch for Pepper Potts.
Just as Pepper Potts found the file she was looking for, the door moved.
