Mira's POV
The company felt unusually tense that morning.
Not chaotic.
Controlled tension.
The kind that silently spread through every hallway before something important happened.
Employees moved faster than usual, conversations became quieter, and almost everyone carried files, tablets, or blueprint drafts while rushing toward meeting rooms.
Even the atmosphere inside the elevator felt serious.
I adjusted my backpack slightly while staring at the glowing floor numbers.
"…something big is definitely happening today."
The elevator doors opened.
The moment I stepped out—
I immediately noticed the main conference hall lights were already on.
Almost the entire staff had gathered.
Whispers spread quietly across the room.
Excitement.
Nervousness.
Curiosity.
I walked inside carefully and found an empty seat near the middle row.
But before I could sit properly—
someone suddenly dropped dramatically into the chair beside me.
"MIRAAAAAA!"
My eyes widened instantly.
"…Michaela?!"
She immediately hugged me tightly before I could even react.
"You still remember me!"
"How could I forget you?!"
Michaela pulled back dramatically, placing one hand over her chest.
"…wow."
"You doubted our friendship that quickly?"
I laughed softly for the first time that morning.
Michaela looked exactly the same as before.
Bright eyes.
Warm smile.
Chaotic energy.
Completely incapable of acting normally for more than three seconds.
Her long brown hair fell messily over one shoulder while she leaned closer excitedly.
"You seriously work here now?"
"You joined too?!"
"Yes!"
She grinned proudly.
"Transferred yesterday."
"…why didn't you tell me?!"
"I wanted to surprise you."
"…you nearly stopped my heart."
"Worth it."
I shook my head helplessly while smiling again.
Honestly—
seeing Michaela after so long instantly relaxed something inside me.
College memories.
Late-night studying.
Shared meals.
Laughing over nothing.
Simple days.
Normal days.
"…I missed this…"
Michaela suddenly looked around dramatically before whispering—
"…also your company is terrifying."
I blinked.
"…what?"
"That man."
She subtly pointed toward the front.
My eyes instinctively followed.
And immediately landed on Azael.
Of course.
He sat calmly at the head of the massive conference table, dressed entirely in black as usual.
Perfect posture.
Unreadable expression.
Absolute presence.
Even sitting silently—
he somehow controlled the entire room without effort.
Employees unconsciously lowered their voices around him.
Some avoided direct eye contact completely.
And somehow—
he still looked detached from all of it.
Michaela leaned closer immediately.
"…is he always this intimidating?"
"…kind of."
"Kind of?! Mira, he looks like he owns nations."
I nearly laughed.
"…you're exaggerating."
"Mira."
She grabbed my arm dramatically.
"That man blinked and three employees straightened their posture."
"…okay maybe slightly intimidating."
"Slightly?!"
Before Michaela could continue—
the conference room doors closed automatically.
And instantly—
silence.
Complete silence.
Kael walked toward the front carrying multiple digital files and a tablet.
Unlike everyone else, he looked perfectly relaxed.
Actually—
almost excited.
"Good morning everyone."
His voice echoed smoothly through the large room.
"As most of you already guessed, today's meeting concerns the Arcadia Project."
The massive digital screen behind him lit up instantly.
And the entire room collectively became quieter.
A futuristic city appeared on screen.
Towering glass buildings.
Bridges.
Residential zones.
Commercial districts.
Green architecture integrated beautifully across the entire project.
My eyes widened slightly.
"…beautiful…"
Michaela whispered beside me.
"…this looks insanely expensive."
Kael smiled faintly.
"Arcadia is currently the largest smart-city construction project open internationally."
The next screen displayed numbers.
Investments.
Partnerships.
Projected expansion.
The entire room visibly stiffened.
"…oh wow."
Even Michaela looked serious now.
Kael continued calmly.
"Over thirty major companies entered the bidding process."
The screen changed again.
"Only three remain."
Soft whispers spread immediately.
Then Kael finally said—
"And we are one of them."
The room became completely silent again.
Excitement spread instantly afterward.
Some employees exchanged shocked looks.
Others immediately opened notes and tablets.
The pressure in the atmosphere rose visibly.
Kael's expression, however, remained composed.
"If we secure Arcadia…"
He paused briefly.
"This company enters an entirely different level globally."
No one spoke after that.
Because everyone understood what this meant.
Years of expansion.
International recognition.
Massive influence.
And enormous pressure.
Kael tapped the screen again.
"Which means failure is not an option."
The relaxed atmosphere disappeared immediately.
Now everyone looked focused.
Serious.
Kael slowly began explaining project divisions, responsibilities, timelines, investor expectations, and department coordination.
Hours passed quickly.
Design teams.
Financial teams.
Structural planning.
Environmental systems.
Every single section of the company would now revolve around Arcadia.
I wrote notes carefully while Michaela occasionally whispered dramatic comments beside me.
"…this project might actually kill us."
"…stop saying things like that."
"She says while writing notes like her life depends on it."
I lightly kicked her shoe under the table.
She looked offended immediately.
"Violence again? After all these years?"
Before I could respond—
I suddenly felt it.
That familiar feeling.
Calm.
Heavy.
Present.
I looked up instinctively.
Azael was already watching me.
Not coldly.
Quietly.
The moment our eyes met—
my heartbeat slowed again.
Every.
Single.
Time.
Dangerous.
Michaela slowly looked between us.
Then very slowly leaned closer.
"…Mira."
"…hm?"
"…why does your boss look at you like that?"
I nearly choked.
"What?!"
"I'm serious."
"You're imagining things."
"Mira."
She stared at me dramatically.
"I survived college gossip wars. I KNOW tension when I see it."
"There's no tension."
"Then why do you look nervous?"
"I'm not nervous."
"You literally stopped blinking."
"…please be quiet."
Michaela looked deeply unconvinced.
Meanwhile—
at the front of the room—
Kael noticed everything.
Of course he did.
His expression immediately became exhausted.
"…unbelievable."
Then finally—
after nearly two hours—
Azael stood.
And instantly—
the entire room fell silent again.
No effort.
No command.
Just presence.
Azael's dark eyes moved slowly across the conference hall.
Calm.
Absolute.
"The Arcadia Project will define this company's future."
His voice remained quiet.
Yet every single person listened carefully.
"We are not competing merely for approval."
A pause.
"We are establishing dominance."
The atmosphere shifted immediately.
Even the employees straightened unconsciously.
Azael continued calmly.
"Mistakes will not be tolerated."
No shouting.
No aggression.
Yet somehow the words carried terrifying weight.
"The company competing against us already expects our failure."
His gaze sharpened slightly.
"Prove them wrong."
Something about the way he spoke made even exhaustion disappear temporarily.
Focus spread instantly across the room.
Motivation.
Determination.
Pressure.
Azael finally looked toward Kael.
"Proceed with team divisions."
Kael nodded once before opening the final project assignments.
Employees immediately became tense again.
Names started appearing on the massive screen.
Departments divided carefully according to specialization.
The room filled with nervous whispers again.
Then—
my name appeared.
Mira — Strategic Design Team A
Beside it—
Michaela.
Michaela gasped dramatically.
"WE'RE TOGETHER!"
I laughed softly.
"…thank god."
Then another name appeared underneath ours.
Team Supervisor — Kael.
The entire room immediately reacted.
Some employees looked jealous instantly.
Others looked relieved.
Because everyone knew one thing—
Kael's teams never failed.
Michaela leaned toward me immediately.
"…okay wait."
"…hm?"
"…your terrifying boss's terrifying assistant is supervising us?"
"…looks like it."
She slowly looked toward Kael.
"…he's strangely handsome."
I blinked slowly.
"…what."
"What?"
Before I could respond—
Kael suddenly looked directly toward our row.
Then—
for the first time—
his eyes paused briefly on Michaela.
A small pause.
Tiny.
But noticeable.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Then Kael smiled faintly.
And somehow—
Michaela immediately sat straighter.
Oh no.
Oh no no no.
This was going to become a disaster.
