Chapter 6 - SEASON 2: THE RETURN OF SERAPHINA

Chapter 6:

The Hidden Truth

The night felt strange—too heavy, like it was pressing down, watching.

Clara waited in the shadows across the street, eyes locked on that building. The one from the photo. Really, it couldn't look more ordinary to anyone else. Dark, quiet, no sign. But to her, it was everything. Adrian had gone inside, and he didn't bother telling her.

She made up her mind right away—Clara never hesitated. Pulled her coat tight, crossed the street. Her steps were deliberate, heels barely making a sound. Every sense in her body tuned up, sharp and ready. This wasn't curiosity. This was her needing proof.

The door stood unlocked—that alone bothered her. She pushed it open, slow. No creak, just a heavy silence. Inside, dim lights flickered down a long hallway. Clara stepped in. One step, then another. She stretched her senses, listening, searching.

Nothing.

And that was exactly the problem. Because there's always something.

At the end of the hall—a room, door left ajar. Clara slid up to it, hand hovering at the handle. She pushed it open.

What she saw froze her in place.

Screens. Dozens of them, stacked up. Surveillance feeds everywhere: her penthouse, her office, the company, even the gala. And yes—her. Clara's breath slowed. Not panic, not fear. Just that cold, clear understanding. Someone had been watching. A lot. And Adrian was wrapped up in all of it.

"You weren't supposed to find this yet."

Clara didn't turn. She knew that voice. Adrian.

She turned then, slow. Adrian stood by the doorway, watching. No surprise in his eyes, no panic—just calm.

"You've been following me," he said.

She crossed her arms. "You've been lying to me."

Adrian stepped inside, closed the door behind him. "Not lying," he said. "Protecting."

Clara's eyes got sharper. "By spying on me?"

Adrian's jaw tightened a bit. "By staying ahead of her."

She glanced at the screens. "You've been watching everything."

"Yes."

"For how long?"

Adrian paused. "Long enough."

That answer just made everything worse. "You didn't trust me," Clara said.

He moved closer. "I didn't trust the situation."

Clara gave a soft, cold laugh. "That's not the same thing."

Silence stretched too long. Then Clara's stare hardened. "You knew," she said.

Adrian frowned. "Knew what?"

"She was back."

Adrian didn't answer right away—and that told her enough.

"You knew," Clara repeated.

Adrian let out a slow breath. "I suspected."

"When?" she demanded.

He paused, then: "Before the first attack."

That hit her, hard. Clara stepped back. "You let this happen."

"No," Adrian said. "I was trying to stop it."

"By keeping me in the dark?"

"By keeping you safe."

Clara shook her head. "No. By controlling me." That landed—she saw it, just a flicker, guilt in Adrian's eyes.

Across the city, Seraphina watched the feed, lips curling as Clara and Adrian stood together. Tension so thick she felt it even through the screens
