I could hear the sound of laughters vibrating through in the halls as one of Robert's staff escorted me to the dining area.
Immediately I walked in, the laughter died and all eyes were on me even though it wasn't my birthday dinner. I took gracious steps towards the table, my eyes focused on no one in particular.
I soon noticed that the table was empty and it didn't look like they had just finished eating, it seemed they haven't even started. I passed Dylan a glance and he just replied me with a shrug. It seems mother dearest had already predicted that I would pull this move, very clever woman.
I took the empty seat next to mother and settled in, the eerie silence dragged on with no one willing to speak first.
"You're here, finally" Mother spoke with a sweet genuine smile painting her lips, she leaned in and I planted a soft kiss on her cheek.
I could feel a pair of eyes watching me from across the table with anger and disgust, but I couldn't care less about Uncle Albert. I looked around, giving each of them a glance and then I noticed an unfamiliar face sitting next to Uncle Albert.
She had blonde hair with sharp green eyes, she seem to have her gaze fixed on me with a smile painting her lips. My eyes lingered on her for a few more seconds before they drifted to the man at the end of the table.
He had his eyes fixed on the glass of wine in his hand as he took a sip, not paying heed to my presence.
Robert Torrance
The man was as cruel as they come, he had midnight dark hair, something I inherited and his black eyes looked dull, like he couldn't care less about anyone or anything.
I could hear mum murmuring some words to the head chef and in a few minutes, the smell of difrerent variety of dishes fill the space of the dining room.
"Let's eat" Mum spoke with a smile, I could feel the joy radiating from her, this woman was the among the only two people in this world that I didn't mind being around.
Not a few minutes into the meal, Uncle Albert started talking about business as usual. Talking about how stocks have increased and the deals he closed this week, the entire time he had his eyes on Robert as he spoke and he would only spare me a glance momentarily to check if I was listening.
We are not even halfway done and I'm already bored, I tried to school my expression while I quietly ate my meal. Mum kept putting more food on my plate, asking me to try this and that and almost every fucking thing on the table.
I could feel her eyes on me from across the table the entire time, what the fuck was she staring at? I wanted to ask her but I just kept quiet and ate my meal in silence, hoping for it to end.
Mother started putting up small talks with me, asking about work and Dylan was quick to chirp in about how I've been over working myself. Since he was the COO, of course he knew about what was going on in the office.
Dylan had been my COO for the past four years now, at first when I started the company, I wanted to go solo but then I realized that I needed someone I could trust with me. And so I brought Dylan along, even though we only started working together four years ago, Dylan and I had been friends since childhood, but that was a story for another day.
Mum started with her motherly talks about how I need to rest and shouldn't be doing too much, she asked if I didn't have an assistant or a secretary to help lessen the burden. Dylan replied right away and told him about Ava, he even mentioned how she had been a great help in getting me here and then he winked at mum.
Soon the dinner ended and I was about to take my leave when I heard the most outrageous request of the century.
"Join me for a drink in the office" Robert spoke from across the table before he stood up and left.
It wasn't much of a request, it was an order and he didn't give me any room to decline. Regardless, I could have said No and just turn around but I had a feeling that there was something important he wanted to talk about.
I got up and followed him upstairs, his office was down the hall. We both walked towards the office without a word, I was a few steps behind and I could sense that someone was tailing us but before I could check who the fucker was, Robert opened his office door and ushered me in.
I had my arms crossed as I leaned on the door frame while he sat on his leather sofa, I didn't bother to hide the impatience on my face or the lack of interest as I watched him.
"Damon, there's someone I would like you to meet" He spoke
His words caught my attention and I raised my brows in question.
"Come in Sasha" Robert spoke again with his eyes fixed on his office door.
I watched without a word as a blonde girl walked in, the same girl from the dinner table, now I had a good look at her, I recognize her from a gala I attended a few months ago.
Sasha Quinn, she's the only daughter of Aiden Quinn and Moria Quinn, I know that because their family happens to be one of the Elite family's in the Country. But that doesn't answer the question in my head,
'Why the fuck is she here?'
From what I remember back when I was working with my father, he was in business with the Quinns but things weren't working so well. I couldn't remember why but….wait…hold up. Everything started piecing together as I glanced at my father with a mocking smile on my lips.
'The audacity…'
I didn't have time to voice my thoughts when Robert's voice echoed in the office.
"Your future wife" He spoke with a serious look on his face.
