Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: Angel

The sewage at his feet began boiling under the influence of this power, releasing foul bubbles one after another.

If an ordinary person stood here right now, their brain would be completely corrupted by demonic energy in mere seconds, turning them into a mindless, bloodthirsty low-tier demon.

Soon, the mass of flesh transformed into a humanoid demon covered in sharp spikes all over its body.

The demon had dark-green, shriveled skin. Its head resembled a skinned wolf—without lips or a chin, its sharp fangs fully exposed and dripping saliva.

It possessed four thick, powerful arms, each ending in razor-sharp claws, radiating the oppressive aura of a high-tier demon.

"Hmph. Finally showing your true form."

Soren's gaze turned ice-cold. With a flick of his wrists, the twin deer-antler blades slid into his hands.

The tunnel was too narrow—the deer blades were better suited for this kind of close-quarters combat.

The demon let out a furious roar and charged at Soren, its four arms slashing wildly through the air.

Soren advanced instead of retreating.

Bang!

The blades collided violently with the claws. Rapid strikes rang out continuously, echoing through the narrow passage.

The shockwaves from their clash blasted the sewage in all directions, turning it into a sky of filthy water.

At some point, thick white fog had begun spreading through the sewer.

From within the mist, Pyramid Head appeared like a ghost behind the demon. Its heavy cleaver sliced through the air and hacked viciously toward one of the demon's lower arms.

Thud.

The severed arm fell into the water, green blood gushing out.

"ROAR!!!"

The demon howled in pain. Its reaction was lightning fast—it spun and smashed a fist toward Pyramid Head, but the punch passed straight through the afterimage and slammed into the concrete wall.

Boom!

A massive crater exploded in the wall. Hidden pipes burst, spraying high-pressure water everywhere.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Soren fused the twin blades into the composite bow. Gripping it with his left hand and drawing the string with his right, he poured every ounce of his demonic power into the weapon.

An arrow as thick as a baby's arm rapidly condensed on the string, building terrifying power.

The glowing purple arrow grew brighter and brighter, illuminating the entire tunnel and casting a pale light across Soren's face.

The instant the arrow reached maximum charge—

He released the string!

The demonic arrow tore through the air with overwhelming pressure, parting the sewage on the ground and leaving a clear trail in its wake.

In the next second, it slammed into the demon's body and blasted a gruesome hole straight through its torso.

The demon was knocked to the ground. It glanced down at the wound. Countless tiny tentacles wriggled out from the green muscle, desperately trying to regenerate the damage.

It stood up again. Just as it opened its mouth to roar in fury—

Soren had already used the arrow as cover to close the distance in a low glide.

He kicked off the wall, launching himself into the air. All remaining demonic power in his body was poured without reservation into the crossed blades in front of him.

Mid-air, a lethal cross slash formed and streaked toward the demon at extreme speed.

Man and demon crossed paths.

Soren landed in a half-crouch, breathing slightly heavy.

Behind him, the demon twitched a few times, let out a couple of wet gurgles, then its body split apart cleanly into four pieces.

Thick green blood dyed the sewer water.

A system notification sounded in his mind. Soren suppressed it for now.

He flicked the filth off his blades and looked at the demon's dismembered remains, thinking to himself.

In the end, it was just a demon without real intelligence, acting purely on instinct.

If they had fought in an open area, it might have been able to use its unpredictable demonic abilities to drag the fight out.

But in this extremely narrow underground tunnel, its massive size became a burden, turning it into nothing more than a stationary punching bag.

Just as Soren was about to store his weapons and toss both Michael's corpse and the demon remains into the Silent Hill domain—

Steady footsteps echoed from the darkness at the other end of the tunnel.

Soren's expression tightened slightly.

The newcomer was a pot-bellied man wearing a brown sheriff's uniform.

It was the same sheriff who had stopped their van at the town entrance earlier.

The sheriff stopped about ten steps away. Golden light shimmered in his pupils, and a holy aura radiated from his body as he looked at Soren coldly.

"Hand over this demon's corpse. Since you didn't cause any trouble on your own initiative, I can let you leave here alive."

The sheriff's attitude was extremely arrogant, as if this was some enormous mercy being granted to Soren.

Soren narrowed his eyes and planted his foot on Michael's corpse. "You already knew Michael was a demon vessel?"

"No. I wasn't certain."

The sheriff's face remained expressionless. "There was no demonic scent on him at all. He completely evaded our detection. But because of the frequent killings, the Council sent me to investigate this anomaly."

"I just didn't expect these filthy insects to hide so deeply."

"Now, hand it over. The Angelic Council will handle everything afterward."

"Human—no, you freak. You are not qualified to touch these things."

"So just because you couldn't detect any demonic presence, even if this psychotic killer slaughtered the entire town, you angels wouldn't lift a finger?"

Soren asked, his tone mocking.

"Humans' birth, aging, illness, and death are all part of their predetermined fate."

The angel's voice was completely flat. "We do not interfere in the disputes of ants."

"What's your name?"

Soren suddenly asked a strange question.

The angel was slightly stunned. He didn't understand why this freak was asking such a meaningless question.

But he assumed the other party was afraid.

The angel lifted his chin slightly and declared in a loud voice:

"I am Augustus, Seventh Circle Patrol Envoy under the Angelic Council!"

"What a shitty name. Never heard of it."

A red glow flashed in Soren's eyes. Just some minor angel with no notable background.

Perfect.

A blur too fast for the eye to follow streaked across the sheriff's body like lightning.

Puff!

Blood sprayed.

All four of the sheriff's limbs were severed at the root, blood gushing like fountains.

Only then did the noble angel finally react.

He stared in shock at the slowly fading afterimage where Soren had been standing and instinctively twisted his head, trying to locate Soren's real body.

The moment he turned, his torso separated from the limbs and lost balance, collapsing into the water.

Soren flicked the blood off his blade, walked over, and looked down at him.

"So weak."

The angel didn't scream or beg for mercy like an ordinary human.

He painfully lifted his head. His golden pupils were filled with humiliation and rage.

"You dare injure a noble angel!? The Council's wrath will burn you to ashes! If you have the guts, kill me right now!"

Soren looked at him and sneered. "I won't kill you."

"If I kill this vessel, your soul origin will just return to Heaven."

"Then you'll come back for revenge."

Hearing these words, the angel—who had just been exposed—froze instantly. His golden pupils contracted violently.
