Chapter 8 - Do cats have no dignity?

MIA

Within a week, I had grown comfortable with Killian. Or so, I made him believe by not attempting to run anymore.

Within my first day around this man, I had understood one thing clearly. It wouldn't be easy to escape his clutches right under his nose.

So, I decided to bide my time. Moreover, it wasn't a bad thing to be in this demon's house.

Everyday after he left for work, I scouted the place. With the so-called status of 'The Young Master's Pet', the servants let me run rampant in the mansion.

But much to my surprise, most of the rooms in the huge mansion were either empty or filled with showpieces that held no significance.

It was as if this mansion was a ghost house that was recently occupied.

I did not find anything important from this place. Not a single document. And much to my surprise, there wasn't even a camera in the mansion, and it was so unlike how the rich people operated.

"You seem pretty satisfied today."

The voice broke the trail of my thoughts. Perched upon Killian's forearm, I looked up at the man and purred twice, 'Oh, you could tell the obvious?'

Killian raised his brow and stroked me. Snarling in disgust, I curled up on his forearm and watched the servants swaying back and forth as they packed the man's suitcase.

Tomorrow, Killian would be leaving for his work trip and that would be my chance to escape.

With the entire mansion scouted, I now know the inns and outs. Without Killian, most people here wouldn't be a match to my current speed.

And the ones that can stop me wouldn't do it in the fear of hurting their young master's pet.

Later that night, as the moon hung in the sky, the servants cleaned the Master Bedroom and dimmed the lights.

The faint fragrance of valerian root lingered in the air, calming my body.

I curled up on the couch, ready to close my eyes and avoid the villain.

But like every night, Killian got up on his bed and tossed and turned.

After half an hour of making himself and me restless, he stopped doing that.

There were some rustling noises in the distance. And in the next moment, I found myself flying.

As I opened my eyes, a pair of dark blue eyes stared at me with bubbling judgement.

"You'd be useful," Killian mumbled thoughtfully and walked off to the bed.

'Excuse me, what?' "Meow Meow Meow"

One moment, I was comfortable and cozy in my spot and the next moment, I found myself being smothered between cold biceps.

"Better now," Killian mumbled drowsily as he closed his eyes.

'Hello? Hell no! Even though I am not a human now, do cats have no dignity?' "Meow meow!" 'How dare you treat me like a pillow?!'

"Meow meow meowzzzz!"

"Quiet," Killian frowned and smothered me some more, nearly knocking the breath out of me.

I panted hard. Fine… Fine.

I needed to put up with this humiliation for one more night.

One more night and this would all be over.

The next morning, just as predicted, Killian left for the business trip.

The servants who usually walked with rigid backs, relaxed a bit more.

Seated on the throne chair, a black kitten observed the scene, her tail swishing back and forth as the pair of green eyes sparkled calculatively.

Mia scoffed and jumped down the throne chair when nobody was noticing.

"It's breakfast time for Jade. Has the salmon been boiled?" the old steward asked the chef.

"Yes, here… All the necessary supplements have been garnished as well."

"Good job," The steward sighed and nodded, "It's rare for the young master to be this invested in something. In his absence, we must take good care of the Little Lady Jade."

"That's true," the couple of chefs nodded in the kitchen, "We will immediately arrange for fresh duck meat, quail eggs and chicken meat so we can start preparing a sumptuous lunch."

The Old Steward laughed like a fox as he stroked his beard, "Good good. The young master would be out for a few days. If we can plump up his pet at that time, he would be definitely pleased with us."

In Killian's absence, the old steward had decided on his action of merit.

Sole goal and jump: Plump up the little kitten with the staff's help and reap the credits for himself as the most senior staff member in the Sapphire Mansion.

Just thinking about it, the old man could barely stop himself from hollering.

Giggling and snickering to himself in glee, he held the plate of salmon and headed out to the living room, "Little Lady Jade— Eh?" the old steward halted, finding the throne chair empty.
