Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 26: NAMES AND GOODBYES

Before the team dispersed, one fan, clutching a small notebook nervously, stepped forward. Her cheeks flushed pink, and her voice barely above a whisper, she asked, "Excuse me… what is your full name, Jian? Even in the first season, everyone just called you Jian. No extra character… I've always wondered." She fiddled with the strap of her bag, clearly shy but determined to ask.

Jian smiled softly, the kind of gentle smile that put people at ease. "My full name is Jian Li," he said, his voice calm. "But I've always preferred being addressed as just Jian." He paused for a moment, as if weighing his words, "'Li' is the name I got from my stepfather. I… I guess I never really felt it was mine. Jian feels simpler, closer to who I am."

The fan nodded slowly, understanding in her eyes, then shyly thanked him before moving back to rejoin the crowd. Only Wen Jinhai, standing quietly behind, knew the deeper truth of Jian's choice—how that small detail carried years of complicated family feelings. He didn't dwell on it though; some things were better left unspoken, like shadows in the past.

After the premiere ended, the cast gathered their belongings, lingering for a few quiet moments in the warm glow of the agency's halls. Everyone exchanged glances, smiles, and subtle nods—the silent acknowledgment of a journey well traveled. There was pride, relief, and a trace of melancholy. This had been more than a project; it had become a family.

They headed to the agency one last time for a final meeting before Director Park officially closed down the studio. The air was solemn but not heavy, a quiet reverence for what had been built. Even Lin Su, usually so guarded, felt a lump in her throat as she walked past the now-empty offices and the familiar sound of phones and cameras that once filled the space.

Director Park stood at the front of the meeting room, hands folded behind his back, looking at each member of the team with a soft, almost paternal gaze. "I never imagined it would end like this," he said, voice low but steady. "We built something from nothing, and you've all poured your hearts into it. I may be closing the studio, but the mark you've left… it's permanent."

Mei Lin, ever blunt but heartfelt, stepped forward. "Director Park, we know you're moving on, but know this—what you started with us… we'll carry forward. Every scene, every laugh, every tear we shared here… it will stay with us."

Director Park nodded, a faint smile crossing his lips. "Thank you, Mei Lin. That's more than I could hope for."

Jian Li, quiet as always, simply stood at the side, his hands clasped in front of him. Wen Jinhai caught his eye, giving him a subtle nod of acknowledgment, and Jian returned it with a small, knowing smile. Words weren't always necessary; they had lived through enough shared moments to understand one another.

Lin Su lingered near the doorway, looking at each of her teammates. Her heart was full, a strange mix of warmth and ache. She had found a home here, found people who mattered, and now they were all going their separate ways. "It's… strange," she said softly to Wen Jinhai, who had been silently watching her, "to feel like leaving home… while standing in it."

He smiled, a slow, reassuring gesture. "Home isn't just a place, Lin Su. It's the people you keep in your heart. And this… this will always be home."

The team exchanged final words, hugs, and smiles. Even Amy, who had kept her distance for much of the journey, quietly nodded at each of them, her expression unreadable but her eyes betraying a rare glimmer of respect.

As they left the building for the last time, the sun was beginning to set, casting a warm golden glow over the city. It was an ending, yes—but also a beginning. Each of them carried a piece of the studio, the series, and one another. The memories, the friendships, the lessons—they would remain, quietly shaping whatever came next.

And in the silence that followed, Wen Jinhai lit a cigarette on the balcony, watching the city lights flicker below, thinking of Lin Su. He exhaled slowly, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Some journeys ended, but some connections… those lingered, quietly, forever.
