Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Stars Behind the Door

I followed him still wondering and contemplating my entire existence at this point.

How was I supposed to adjust. This was all so sudden! Not only did I know nothing about living as a human in a new time, I didn't even speak much Spanish. How was I supposed to survive.

Unfazed by my internal freak out, he knocked on a door that looked mysterious. I wondered what layed behind it. He whispered some kind of code and a girl with fire red hair opened it up.

She barely looked human, she had a blazing look to her. She beckoned Yang in as if she knew him. I puased at the door skeptical to step much further.

"Come on Yin, we don't have time for this, Feu has a short temper and short patience" he said while turning back and dragging me in.

I looked around very uncertain of my surroundings. I walked tentatively bumping into some things. Behind these doors was no normal building.

It looked as if the space was woven with stars, white lights swirled the walls. In one corner was blazing flame. I looked around past that towards a blue one that looked watery. As I took it in, I realized there were all four Elements and more.

"You walk very clumsily" Yang said at me chuckling. "No need to be so on edge. Especially with all that muscle what do you have to fear"

"Well excuse me, I don't think my size dictates my personality or fears. I've spent so long not even having a form and yet you pull me here. What am I supposed to act like?"

"Happy that you're free?" He suggested with a raise in his eyebrows. I looked behind the girl he called Feu. I saw a girl who looked more soft and watery with a hint of fierceness to her eloquent stature.

I did not know yet much of my surroundings yet I suspected that these beings weren't human. If I had to venture a guess, they looked elemental.

"Are you going to tell me what this place is now" I asked.

"Oh yes! This is Elysium. It's a shop they opened to serve as a hub, a safe space for people needing to connect to their sources, powers, and energies so they can either maintain their human forms or interact with the ones that don't have a human form."

I looked at him like he was saying some ridiculous nonsense from a story book. "That's a load of nonsense. That sounds so cheesy" I said. Or at least, that is what I tried to convey but in my older speech it came out weird as well.

"Well, how else do you explain what's happening to you right now? I'm afraid magical shops are the least of your worries." He said while jabbing me casually.

"You can think of this place as a spiritual apocothary really" Feu I presumed, said.

"I really struggled at first too. So I built this place with the others" she gestured around.

Yang turned spreading his arms wide as well. "This is the safe space for us. It seems we were lucky or maybe the universe just loved us to put us near enough to one of these." He said before continuing "I met these beings while I was stuck in my Ether. If not for them, I may have never woken up enough to manifest my physical form."

"And why do I have my form?" I asked.

He gestured over to some chairs within a white swirling walled space. "You finally started to wake up that's why. You may nor remember much, but you were originally a human."

"So why did I become Yin? I don't really get any of this" I muttered in confusion.

"Honestly a good question. I think it's had something to do with our souls. I think maybe it's like a succession, certain beings become Yin and yang for a while to serve the balance of the world. Or maybe we were always Yin and Yang, we merely became humans shortly. It's unclear. What I do know is that energy can neither be created nor destroyed" he said shrugging completely un bothered.

"I don't get it, you're telling me you're okay with being completely clueless. Shouldn't we learn where we came from?"

"Well, do most humans know how humanity started? No, also it doesn't do us anything to know. We can ask as much as we want but we have no where to start to know why or get the answers we seek anyway as of now." He replied.

I sighed a bit. He was right. It wasn't as if it changed anything. Still it was so strange to me how he seemed so calm and knowing his way around. "So what now?" I asked completely uncertain what to do now.

"We can plan that as we go but for now, we should get youㅡand I for that matter, settled in. We need a good shower, meal and so on. This place Feu agreed we can stay for a brief while til we get on our feet. Okay?" He got up and outstretched my hand to help me get up.

I looked at his hand suspiciously and hesitant to take it, worrying I'd topple him over completely with his small frame. I didn't take his hand and instead hoisted myself up. He looked at his empty hand for a moment looking slightly dejected before shaking it off.

I followed him into the back. He now taking off his clothes to shower, I looked away anxious now. Such proximity would be dangerous for someone like me.

He grabbed a towel noticing my discomfort. "You can shower first. Honestly we're lucky the 'shop' even has showers if it weren't for water beings liking anything pertaining to water necessitating this."

"Why do you seem so calm like you know so much" I asked him.

"Honestly I don't. I woke up earlier than you, a long time ago. So I had to try my best and learn a lot. However, I'm just...trying to make this easier for you" he said.

"Why do you care so much about helping me? Even in the void you kept me company by talking to me even though we didn't share the same space"

He luaghed a painful luagh that sounded sad and resigned. "No one deserves to feel alone in this universe. It is true I lived in the opposite space of you, but we're still connected. Even if you wish it weren't so."

I looked at that soft expression wondering what to make of it, of the boy in front of me.

"Wash up, I will see what I can get us to eat. I'm sure you must be very stressed and overwhelmed. Take it one minute at a time okay? We have a lot to do in the future. I'll grab your favorites if I can"

"How do you know my favorite foods?" I asked.

He just gave me a pained bittersweet smile as if he was longing for other days.
