Chapter 25 - Bride of the Shadow King

Chapter 25: When Darkness Begins to Break (Part 1)

The night fell quietly over the Shadow Kingdom.

After the attack of the abyss creatures, the castle remained tense. Guards doubled their patrol while dark clouds lingered in the sky.

Liora stood on the balcony outside her room, looking at the distant mountains.

Her mind felt restless.

Everything was happening too fast.

Her power…

Kael…

And the Shadow King…

She touched her wrist.

The Light Seal glowed faintly again.

"I'm getting stronger…"

But instead of happiness, she felt worried.

Because each time her power grew—

The Shadow King's expression became more serious.

A soft breeze brushed past her.

Then—

She sensed something.

Darkness.

Unstable.

She turned quickly.

The Shadow King stood behind her.

But something felt wrong.

His aura flickered.

Unsteady.

"Shadow King?"

He didn't answer immediately.

His eyes looked darker than usual.

"...You shouldn't be outside."

She stepped closer.

"You don't look well."

"I'm fine."

But his voice sounded strained.

She frowned.

"You're not."

Suddenly—

Dark energy flickered around him.

The ground beneath his feet cracked slightly.

Liora's eyes widened.

"Your power—"

He stepped back quickly.

"Stay away."

Her heart tightened.

"What's happening?"

"...Nothing."

But darkness began leaking from his hand.

His breathing grew heavier.

Liora realized instantly.

His power—

Was becoming unstable.

She stepped closer anyway.

"You're losing control…"

"Stay back!"

His voice turned sharp.

She froze.

It was the first time he raised his voice at her.

Her chest tightened.

"I'm trying to help…"

He turned away.

"...You can't."

Suddenly—

Darkness burst from his body.

The air trembled.

The sky darkened.

Liora stepped back.

Her light flickered automatically.

The two powers clashed slightly.

The Shadow King clenched his hand.

"...Go inside."

She shook her head.

"No."

He looked at her.

"You could get hurt."

"I won't leave you."

Silence filled the air.

Darkness still surrounded him.

Unstable.

Dangerous.

She slowly raised her hand.

Her light appeared.

Soft.

Gentle.

She stepped closer.

"I'm not afraid."

His eyes widened slightly.

"Stop—"

But her light touched his darkness.

The clash should have exploded.

But instead—

The darkness calmed slightly.

Both froze.

The Shadow King looked at her.

"...Your light…"

She stepped closer.

Her light grew warmer.

The darkness slowly stabilized.

His breathing slowed.

The wind softened.

After a moment—

The darkness faded.

Silence returned.

Liora lowered her hand.

"Are you okay?"

He looked at her quietly.

"...You stabilized my power."

She smiled softly.

"I'm glad."

But suddenly—

His knees weakened slightly.

She caught him.

"Shadow King!"

He steadied himself.

"...I'm fine."

But he didn't move away immediately.

They stood close.

Very close.

Her heart raced.

His eyes softened slightly.

"...You shouldn't risk yourself."

She shook her head.

"I trust you."

His expression changed slightly.

The same words he once told her.

Silence lingered.

Then—

The shadow wolf barked loudly.

Both stepped back.

The moment broke.

He turned away.

"...You should rest."

She nodded slowly.

But her heart still beat fast.

Because for a moment—

She felt his walls breaking.

Meanwhile—

Far away—

Kael stood inside a dark temple.

A crystal floated before him.

Inside it—

The Shadow King's unstable aura flickered.

Kael smiled slowly.

"So… it's starting."

A dark figure stepped forward.

"My lord?"

Kael turned.

"Prepare the next attack."

The figure bowed.

"Yes, my lord."

Kael looked toward the Shadow Kingdom.

"If his darkness becomes unstable…"

He smiled.

"He'll destroy himself."

Dark laughter echoed.

Back in the castle—

Liora couldn't sleep.

She sat by the window again.

Her thoughts returned to earlier.

He was hurting…

And he didn't tell me…

She clenched her hand slightly.

"I want to help him…"

Suddenly—

She sensed something again.

Soft footsteps.

She turned.

The Shadow King stood outside her door.

"You're still awake."

She nodded.

"So are you."

Silence.

Then—

He stepped inside.

"I came to check on you."

She smiled softly.

"I'm fine."

He nodded.

But he didn't leave.

They stood quietly.

The moonlight filled the room.

Liora spoke softly.

"...Does it hurt?"

He looked at her.

"My power."

He hesitated.

"...Sometimes."

Her chest tightened.

"Then let me help."

He shook his head.

"...It's dangerous."

"I don't care."

Silence.

Then—

He spoke quietly.

"...Thank you."

Her smile returned.

And outside—

Dark clouds gathered again.

The next storm—

Was coming.

Chapter 25: When Darkness Begins to Break (Part 2)

The moonlight stretched across the quiet room.

Liora and the Shadow King stood silently, facing each other. The air felt calm, yet filled with unspoken emotions.

The wind brushed softly against the curtains.

Liora slowly stepped closer.

"You shouldn't carry everything alone."

The Shadow King looked at her quietly.

"...I'm used to it."

Her chest tightened.

"You don't have to anymore."

Silence filled the room.

His eyes softened slightly.

But before he could respond—

A loud tremor shook the castle.

Both froze.

The ground vibrated.

Liora gasped.

"Another attack?"

The Shadow King's expression hardened instantly.

"Stay behind me."

They rushed outside.

The castle courtyard was already in chaos.

Guards shouted.

Dark creatures crawled over the walls again.

But this time—

They looked different.

Stronger.

Larger.

Their bodies twisted unnaturally.

Liora felt a chill.

"They're stronger…"

The Shadow King stepped forward.

"...Kael is testing us."

The creatures roared.

They charged.

The Shadow King raised his hand.

Dark blades formed.

He attacked instantly.

Creatures fell.

But more appeared.

Liora raised her hand.

Her light formed quickly.

She attacked.

Light burst forward.

Several creatures dissolved instantly.

She breathed heavily.

Her power was growing stronger.

But suddenly—

A massive shadow beast appeared.

Huge.

Terrifying.

Its roar shook the air.

The guards stepped back in fear.

The Shadow King narrowed his eyes.

"...A high-level abyss beast."

The creature lunged forward.

He blocked.

Darkness clashed.

The ground cracked.

Liora stepped back.

The beast pushed him slightly.

Her eyes widened.

It's strong…

The beast attacked again.

The Shadow King dodged.

But darkness around him flickered.

Unstable.

Liora noticed.

"Your power…"

The beast lunged again.

He blocked—

But darkness cracked.

He slid back.

Her heart pounded.

He's losing control again…

She raised her hand.

Her light glowed.

"Let me help!"

"No—"

Too late.

She stepped forward.

Her light burst toward the beast.

The beast roared.

But didn't fall.

Instead—

It turned toward her.

Her eyes widened.

The beast lunged.

Too fast.

Before it reached—

The Shadow King appeared instantly.

He blocked the attack.

Darkness exploded.

The beast was pushed back.

His aura grew darker.

More violent.

Liora felt it.

His power—

Was losing control again.

"Shadow King!"

Darkness surged wildly.

The ground cracked.

The sky darkened.

His eyes glowed dangerously.

He attacked.

Dark blades rained down.

The beast roared.

The entire courtyard trembled.

Liora stepped back.

She had never seen him like this.

His power—

Was terrifying.

The beast attacked again.

He struck it directly.

Darkness pierced the creature.

It roared—

Then shattered into dust.

Silence fell.

The creatures retreated.

The guards relaxed.

But—

The Shadow King still stood there.

Darkness swirling around him.

Unstable.

Dangerous.

"Shadow King…"

He didn't respond.

His breathing grew heavy.

Dark cracks spread around his feet.

Liora realized—

He's losing control…

She stepped closer.

"No… don't come closer."

His voice sounded strained.

But she didn't stop.

Her light appeared.

She reached toward him.

"I'm here…"

The darkness surged.

But her light touched him.

Warm.

Gentle.

The darkness slowed.

His breathing stabilized slowly.

The wind softened.

After a moment—

The darkness faded.

Silence returned.

He looked at her quietly.

"...You saved me again."

She smiled softly.

"We're helping each other."

His eyes softened slightly.

But suddenly—

He noticed something.

Her light flickered weakly.

She swayed slightly.

"Liora—"

He caught her.

"I'm okay… just tired…"

"You used too much power."

She nodded weakly.

He lifted her again.

She blushed slightly.

"You carry me a lot…"

"...You're always collapsing."

She smiled faintly.

The shadow wolf followed again.

The guards watched silently.

Their king—

Protecting someone.

It felt new.

Different.

Inside the castle—

He placed her gently on the bed.

She looked at him.

"...You stayed."

He nodded.

Silence lingered.

Then—

She spoke softly.

"You don't have to fight alone anymore."

He looked at her quietly.

For the first time—

He didn't look distant.

"...Thank you."

Her heart warmed.

She slowly closed her eyes.

Sleep took her quickly.

He stayed beside the window.

Watching her.

Outside—

Dark clouds gathered again.

Far away—

Kael watched.

His smile widened.

"Good…"

"The Shadow King is weakening."

Lightning flashed.

"The final stage… begins soon."

Inside the castle—

The Shadow King looked at his hand.

Dark cracks appeared briefly—

Then disappeared.

His expression turned serious.

If his power kept breaking—

He might lose control completely.

And if that happened—

He would become…

The very villain she must kill.
