The morning after the confession felt different — heavier, sweeter, and far more dangerous.
Lin Yuè woke up wrapped in Guàn Jǐngchén's arms, the CEO's chest pressed firmly against his back, one leg thrown possessively over his. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a golden glow over their tangled bodies. For a few blissful seconds, everything felt perfect.
Then reality crashed back in.
Guàn Jǐngchén stirred, pressing a slow kiss to the nape of Lin Yuè's neck. "Good morning, baby," he murmured, voice still rough from sleep. His hand slid down Lin Yuè's bare stomach, pulling him even closer. "You're staying in bed with me today. No arguments."
Lin Yuè turned in his arms, offering a shy, soft smile that came more naturally now than ever. "You'll get bored of me if I'm always here."
"Impossible." Guàn Jǐngchén captured his lips in a deep, lazy kiss that quickly heated up. Hands roamed, bodies pressed together, and soon the room filled with soft gasps and whispered names.
They made love slowly that morning — Guàn Jǐngchén taking his time, eyes locked on Lin Yuè's the entire time, murmuring "mine" like a vow with every thrust. When they finished, the CEO held him close, stroking his hair with surprising tenderness.
"I meant what I said yesterday," Guàn Jǐngchén said quietly. "Move in completely. I'll have the paperwork done this week. You belong here now."
Lin Yuè's heart twisted painfully. He buried his face in the CEO's chest, nodding silently.
Later, while Guàn Jǐngchén was in the shower, Lin Yuè sat at the edge of the bed, staring at his hidden tablet.
The extraction script was still deleted. The backdoor remained active but dormant. The next forensic scan was scheduled for tomorrow morning.
He had one last chance to run.
Instead, he opened a new encrypted file and began typing a letter he knew he might never send:
*Jǐngchén,
If you're reading this, then you already know the truth.
I never planned to fall in love with you. I came here to take something and leave.
But every time you touched me, every time you called me yours, I wanted to stay.
I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry.*
He saved it, then closed the tablet.
When Guàn Jǐngchén emerged from the bathroom in nothing but a towel, water still dripping from his hair, he smiled at the sight of Lin Yuè.
"Come here," he said, opening his arms.
Lin Yuè went to him without hesitation, letting himself be pulled into a warm, wet embrace. Guàn Jǐngchén kissed him deeply, hands sliding under the oversized shirt Lin Yuè was wearing.
"I have one meeting this afternoon," the CEO murmured against his lips. "After that, I'm yours for the rest of the day. We'll go shopping for whatever you need to make this place feel like home."
Lin Yuè nodded, forcing the innocent smile back onto his face. "I'd like that."
As Guàn Jǐngchén dressed for his meeting, Lin Yuè watched him from the bed, chest aching.
He had made his choice.
He wasn't running.
He was staying — even if it meant the truth would eventually destroy them both.
That afternoon, while Guàn Jǐngchén was at the office, Lin Yuè sat on the balcony with a cup of tea, staring at the city below.
His phone buzzed with a message from an old dark-web contact:
*Eclipse, the client is getting impatient. Do you have the AI encryption keys yet? Time is running out.*
Lin Yuè stared at the message for a long time.
Then he typed a single reply:
*Deal is off. I'm out.*
He deleted the conversation, blocked the contact, and turned off the phone.
When Guàn Jǐngchén returned that evening, he found Lin Yuè waiting for him at the door, wearing one of his shirts and a soft, genuine smile.
"Welcome home," Lin Yuè said quietly.
Guàn Jǐngchén's eyes lit up. He dropped everything and pulled Lin Yuè into a fierce kiss, lifting him off the ground.
"This," the CEO whispered against his lips, "is exactly what I want to come home to every day."
Lin Yuè wrapped his arms around Guàn Jǐngchén's neck and kissed him back with everything he had.
He had burned his bridges.
There was no going back now.
Only forward — toward the day when the mask would finally shatter.
