Seraphina POV
I went to look for Lucian's laptop, but then I decided to wait. After everything I had learned, it was better to work with them for now. I went back and asked Mary if she had made the call. She said yes, and I told her to rest since I had woken her earlier.
I gave her some of my clothes and asked a maid to prepare a room so she could sleep for about an hour and thirty minutes before getting dressed so we could go to the office. Then I slept too.
I woke up to sunlight and silence.
Not the heavy, loaded silence of the past few days just ordinary morning quiet. The kind that meant nothing was immediately on fire. I lay there for a moment, taking stock of my body the way you did after difficult nights. The ribs are still tender. My cheeks are still slightly swollen. Everything else is working fine.
Good enough.
I sat up slowly.
