Alicia worked late into the evening, and sketches spread across the studio table. Each design was a reflection of her heart, every line a step closer to her dream.
James moved silently behind her, adjusting a lamp so the light didn't strain her eyes, while Maria arranged fabrics within easy reach. Lina polished the windows again, letting the last of the sunlight reflect across the room.
A soft ping sounded from Michael's office.
Daniel Reyes, his assistant, had sent a discreet message:
"Miss Anderson's registration confirmed. Competition begins in three weeks. No unusual activity detected… yet. Enemy presence likely observing mansion perimeter."
Michael read it carefully, his jaw tightening. He didn't need to ask questions—the warning was clear. Someone was already watching.
He glanced toward Alicia. She didn't notice his gaze. The curve of her hand as she sketched, the intensity in her eyes… she was completely immersed.
Daniel continued to monitor the situation, noting every delivery, visitor, and minor anomaly around the mansion. He even kept subtle tabs on Sophie and Adrian, knowing they would play a critical role in supporting Alicia.
Meanwhile, Sophie leaned over Alicia's shoulder, pointing at a particular sketch.
"You know," she said teasingly, "if you include more asymmetrical lines here, it'll really stand out for the judges."
Adrian, seated quietly nearby, nodded.
"Agreed. It shows confidence," he added.
Sophie glanced at him, surprised. "Wow, you actually gave advice instead of sarcastic remarks."
Adrian smirked faintly. "I know when to step up."
Her cheeks flushed slightly.
Alicia paused and looked between them. "You two make a strange team," she said, smiling.
"You should see us strategize behind the scenes," Sophie said.
Adrian leaned closer. "It's all for the mission: protecting your designs… and making sure no one sabotages you."
Alicia raised an eyebrow. "Mission?"
Sophie giggled while Adrian's expression stayed serious.
"Exactly," he said. "You'll see soon enough."
Daniel tapped Michael's shoulder. "Sir, one of the neighborhood staff reported a suspicious figure lingering near the outer gates. Nothing alarming yet, but I thought you should be aware."
Michael's eyes narrowed. "Keep an eye. Quietly. I don't want to alarm anyone, especially Alicia."
Daniel nodded, already pulling up the surveillance feeds. Every detail mattered. Every movement could be a sign.
Outside, the enemy lurked, invisible but watchful, taking note of Alicia's late-night activity. They noticed Michael checking in, Daniel monitoring every detail, and even Sophie and Adrian supporting Alicia behind the scenes.
She's growing stronger. And so is he. But patience… patience will pay off, the enemy thought, their eyes calculating the first move.
Back inside the mansion, Alicia leaned back in her chair, exhaling slowly.
"I think I'm ready," she said quietly, almost to herself.
Sophie grinned. "Good. That's what I like to hear."
Adrian added, softly, "We've got your back. Every step of the way."
Michael, watching from the doorway, only nodded. No words were needed.
Daniel, reviewing the latest reports, made a note: All activity accounted for so far. Vigilance continues.
And somewhere, beyond the mansion walls, the enemy waited.
