Chapter 89 - chp 86

The door to the Hokage's office had barely closed before Shinji stopped walking.

Behind him, the room still carried the weight of everything that had just been decided. Plans. Positions. Responsibilities. Everyone moving toward the role they would play when the night finally broke apart.

But there was still one thing he needed.

"Sensei."

The word was quiet, but firm enough to stop the hallway itself.

Behind him, Hiruzen Sarutobi paused.

For a moment, neither moved.

Then the Third Hokage turned slowly.

"…Shinji."

Shisui glanced between them before letting out a soft breath. "I'll wait outside."

He slipped away without another word, leaving the two alone beneath the dim hallway lights.

Silence settled between them.

Not awkward.

Not uncertain.

Heavy.

Shinji didn't waste time.

"If we're right…"

A pause.

"…this won't just be the Uchiha."

Hiruzen's gaze sharpened slightly beneath the shadow of his hat.

"…No."

Shinji stepped closer.

"It'll be Root."

Another pause.

"…Danzo."

Hiruzen didn't deny it.

Didn't soften it.

"…Yes."

That alone said enough.

Shinji held his gaze steadily.

"I need to know something."

A beat.

"If protecting the village means—"

He stopped there.

He didn't need to finish.

Hiruzen understood perfectly.

For a long moment, the old Hokage said nothing.

Then he stepped forward.

Closer.

And something about him changed.

Not the patient teacher.

Not the gentle elder.

But the man who had led Konoha through war after war.

"…I have failed before."

The words were quiet.

Honest.

Shinji stayed silent.

"I hesitated," Hiruzen continued. "When I should have acted."

A pause.

"I trusted… when I should have questioned."

Another.

"And I allowed things to grow…"

His voice lowered slightly.

"…that should have been cut out."

Danzo.

Root.

Everything tied to it.

Hiruzen met Shinji's eyes again, and for the first time in a long time, there was no softness in them.

"This time…"

A beat.

"I will not hesitate."

Silence followed.

Firm.

Final.

Shinji studied him for a long moment before nodding once.

"…That's all I needed."

Hiruzen placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You've already done more than most would."

A pause.

"Now let us finish it."

Shinji turned without another word.

There was nothing left to question.

Outside, Shisui pushed himself off the wall the moment he saw him approach.

"…We good?"

Shinji nodded once.

"…We're good."

Then they moved.

Because now it was time to prepare.

Shinji didn't gather the clans together in one place. He moved through the village the same way he had before, quietly and deliberately, but the purpose had changed.

Before, he brought awareness.

Now—

He brought readiness.

He moved quickly.

First, the Inuzuka.

Tsume Inuzuka didn't need a long explanation. The moment Shinji spoke, her expression sharpened instantly.

"It's happening, isn't it."

Shinji nodded once.

"Soon."

A grin spread across her face, sharp and eager.

"Good."

A pause.

"My people are ready."

No hesitation.

No politics.

Just instinct.

Next came the Akimichi.

Chōza Akimichi rose from his seat the moment Shinji finished explaining the situation.

"…Then we move when you call."

"Yes."

"No hesitation."

None.

Then the Aburame.

Shibi Aburame listened in complete silence before finally speaking.

"The insects are already positioned."

A pause.

"They will detect the first movement."

Good.

Then the Nara.

Shikaku let out a tired sigh the moment Shinji explained the situation. "…Troublesome timing."

A pause followed before his eyes sharpened.

"But everything's already in place."

Another.

"When this starts…"

His voice lowered slightly.

"…we'll control the board."

Then the Yamanaka.

Inoichi nodded once, already understanding the scale of what was coming.

"We'll monitor communications."

A pause.

"…No one moves unseen."

Then the Hyuga.

Hiashi stood perfectly still as Shinji spoke.

"The Byakugan will cover the village."

A pause.

"…Nothing escapes our sight."

One by one.

Piece by piece.

The village aligned itself.

Not loudly.

Not publicly.

But completely.

By the time Shinji finished moving through the clans, Konoha was as prepared as it could be.

There was only one place left.

The Hokage's residence.

When Shinji arrived, the atmosphere felt different from the tower.

Quieter.

More personal.

Inside, Minato Namikaze stood near the center of the room.

Beside him was Jiraiya.

And in Minato's arms—

Naruto.

Small.

Sleeping.

Completely unaware of the storm gathering around him.

Shinji paused for half a second before stepping inside.

"…Sorry to interrupt."

Minato shook his head immediately.

"You're not."

Jiraiya glanced toward him with a faint smirk.

"…You look like a man who's already fought the battle."

Shinji ignored the comment.

"I need a favor."

Minato's expression sharpened slightly.

"Say it."

Shinji's voice lowered.

"My family."

A pause.

"…I want them here."

Jiraiya raised an eyebrow slightly. "…You expecting company?"

Shinji didn't answer directly.

"It'll be safer."

Minato didn't hesitate.

"They're welcome here."

A pause.

"As long as needed."

Jiraiya smirked faintly. "…What's a few more people at this point?"

Minato almost smiled.

Shinji nodded once.

"…Thank you."

Then he turned and left.

No time to linger.

No time to think.

Only action.

The Uchiha compound felt different when he returned.

Not peaceful.

Not tense.

Waiting.

He stepped into his home, and Mikoto Uchiha looked up immediately.

"…Shinji."

She saw it in his face before he spoke.

"…It's time."

Shinji nodded once.

"It's starting soon."

A pause.

"I need you to go to the Hokage's residence."

Her expression softened slightly with concern, but not fear.

"…We'll go."

Behind her, baby Sasuke shifted lightly in his sleep, completely unaware of the danger closing in around the village.

Then another voice cut through the room.

Sharper.

Steadier.

"…No."

Shinji didn't need to turn to recognize it.

Itachi Uchiha stepped forward from the hallway.

Older now.

Stronger.

A chunin already.

"I'm not leaving."

Mikoto's expression tightened immediately. "Itachi—"

"I'm a shinobi," Itachi said firmly. "I can fight."

Shinji turned fully toward him.

"…No."

Itachi didn't lower his gaze.

"You're asking me to run."

"I'm telling you to survive."

A pause.

"That's different."

Itachi stepped closer.

"I've trained."

Another.

"I've fought."

A beat.

"I'm not a child."

Silence stretched between them.

Heavy.

Real.

Shinji studied him carefully now.

Not as a brother.

As a shinobi.

And what he saw wasn't weakness.

But it still wasn't enough.

"Do you know what's coming?" Shinji asked quietly.

Itachi answered honestly.

"No."

"Neither do I."

That landed harder than anything else.

Shinji's voice lowered slightly.

"And that's the problem."

A pause.

"This isn't a mission."

Another.

"This is chaos."

Itachi's fists tightened slightly at his sides.

"…Then let me face it."

Shinji stepped forward until only a small distance separated them.

"…If you come…"

A beat.

"You follow orders."

No hesitation.

No argument.

Itachi met his gaze steadily.

"…I will."

A long silence passed between them before Shinji finally exhaled slowly.

"…Fine."

Mikoto's eyes widened slightly.

"Shinji—"

"He stays close to me," Shinji said firmly. "Or Shisui."

A pause.

"No exceptions."

Itachi nodded immediately.

"…Understood."

Shinji looked at him for another moment before speaking again.

"…Get ready."

Because now there was nothing left to delay.

Outside, the village still slept peacefully beneath the night sky, unaware that everything around it stood on the edge of collapse.

Inside the Uchiha compound, a family prepared for war.

And somewhere in the shadows—

Others were preparing too.

The first move—

Was coming.
