Kaelen's POV
I pressed my back against the corridor wall, running my palm across my forehead. The cool stone did nothing to ease the heat coursing through my veins.
What the hell had gotten into me?
The memory of her skin against my fingers wouldn't fade. The softness of her lips beneath my palm, the gentle flutter of her breath warming my skin like it could somehow penetrate deeper than flesh. Into places I'd kept locked away for good reason.
I pushed myself off the wall and forced my feet to move. My chambers waited just ahead, but every step felt like trudging through quicksand.
She's not what they claimed she was.
The voice emerged from within, from that primal part of me that shared my soul. My wolf had been pacing restlessly all evening, growing more agitated by the hour.
"Drop it," I growled under my breath.
Daphne and her mother fabricated everything. Lyra never betrayed anyone. She was protecting her pack the only way she could.
