My gaze darted between the door and Mia, calculating the distance. Maybe ten feet separated us. She appeared delicate, almost fragile compared to the warriors I'd trained with, the guards who'd outweighed me significantly during sparring sessions. Taking her down should be manageable.
Yet what did I truly understand about this Omega?
For days, she'd maintained her facade while lying directly to my face. She'd smiled sweetly while administering poison. She'd clasped my hand warmly while orchestrating murder behind the scenes. Every assumption I'd made about her character was nothing more than an elaborate fiction she'd crafted for my consumption.
"Explain to me why you'd choose to ally yourself with anyone other than your Alpha," I demanded, surprised by how controlled my voice sounded despite the chaos churning inside me. "You took sacred oaths. You made binding vows."
