Kaelen's POV
The study door swung open without warning. No courtesy knock, just the harsh scrape of wood against the frame as Jaxson strode in, brandishing a phone like he'd just claimed victory in battle.
I glanced up from the cupcake sitting on my desk. My gaze locked onto the device he carried. Black plastic. Standard issue. Nothing remarkable about its appearance, but I knew better than to judge by looks alone.
"Got what you requested," Jaxson announced, crossing the room in three purposeful strides. He set the phone down next to the cupcake with deliberate precision.
I lifted the device, rotating it in my palms. The screen remained dark and lifeless. The case showed wear along the edges from constant handling. Mia had carried this phone everywhere, clutching her secrets close.
"Did you manage to access it?" I asked.
"Password protected," Jaxson replied, settling against the desk with his arms folded. "Couldn't risk triggering a data wipe by forcing entry."
