Daphne's POV
My feet moved quickly down the corridor, each step creating sharp echoes that bounced off the walls around me. Inside my chest, my heart hammered with a mixture of fury and excitement, knowing Father was trailing behind me.
His voice reached me again, calling out desperately. "Daphne, wait!"
I refused to slow my pace. I shoved my bedroom door open and stepped through, deliberately leaving it slightly ajar in what could only be interpreted as an invitation.
Moments later, he appeared in the doorway, his expression etched with concern. His entire frame seemed weighed down, as though he carried an invisible burden too heavy for his shoulders. Perfect.
"Daphne," his voice was gentle, almost pleading. "Baby, please look at me."
I deliberately turned my back to him, walking toward the window. I folded my arms around my body, making myself appear fragile and hurt. The moonlight streamed through the glass, and I could see his reflection hovering uncertainly behind mine.
