Kaelen's POV
Sleep became impossible after what happened.
I stretched out on the couch, gazing at the dark ceiling, my forearm covering my eyes as if it could erase the memory. It was useless. The scene kept replaying in my mind. Her fingertips grazing my mouth. The startled expression when I opened my eyes. The nervous tremor in her voice as she tried to explain herself.
You embraced me twice.
A low groan escaped my lips as I shifted to my side, punching the cushion into submission. Nothing helped. Nothing could help because I was trapped in an endless loop, finally understanding what a fool I had been.
I had awakened with her body pressed close to mine. That part was accurate. But the dream that consumed me just before consciousness returned? That was where the real trouble lay.
