Daphne's POV
The first girl's eyes widened in terror. She collapsed to her knees as if someone had severed her puppet strings.
"No. Absolutely not." The words spilled from her lips in a frantic rush. "A sentinel is actively courting her," she gestured frantically toward her companion. "We were simply laughing at something he did that amused us."
"I don't buy that excuse."
The second girl finally snapped out of her paralysis. She dropped to her knees as well, though her movements appeared forced and resentful.
"Obviously not." Her voice trembled with barely contained fear. "We would never dream of such disrespect, Ome—"
Her eyes bulged as her mouth clamped shut, but the word had already escaped.
"We would never, Luna Daphne."
Omega.
She had been on the verge of calling me Omega.
Rage blazed through my bloodstream like liquid fire. I lunged at her before logic could intervene. My hands seized her face. I pressed my fingers deep into her cheeks until she whimpered in pain.
