Sleep eluded me completely.
The mattress beneath me was soft enough, the temperature in the room perfectly controlled. Darkness wrapped around me like it should have brought comfort, yet my thoughts churned relentlessly. The weight of what I'd learned pressed against my ribcage, making each breath feel labored and intentional.
Victor's business card haunted me. Every time I let my eyelids drift shut, that stark white surface appeared in my mind, stained with dried blood and printed with damning black letters. The evidence felt too real to dismiss, too crushing to fully accept.
Jaxson.
His name pulsed through my skull like a wound that wouldn't heal.
My hands twisted in the bedsheets. Every fiber of my being wanted to storm down the hallway to his door and force the truth out of him right now. The urge to confront him burned hot in my veins, to demand he either confess or look me in the eye while he lied.
But I remained motionless.
