Daphne's POV
My eyes fluttered open, still heavy with sleep.
"You're absolutely correct though. You are my flesh and blood, and I understand exactly who you are." She cocked her head to one side. "What makes you think your little games would have any effect on me?"
Warmth flooded my cheeks. I took a step backward.
"Go ahead and eat." Mother nodded toward Isla. "Isla will remain here to assist you with getting dressed."
"Dressed for what exactly?"
"Yesterday wasn't some empty threat. Today you depart for the Azure of the Valley."
I let out a bitter laugh that echoed harshly in the silent room. "Marriage is the furthest thing from my mind right now. I plan to remain single for at least a full year. You won't railroad me into this just because you think I embarrassed you slightly too much last evening."
"Daphne..."
