Lyra's POV
Celeste worked with the practiced ease of someone who had done this countless times. She pulled open the medical drawer, gathered her instruments, and positioned herself beside the bed. The girl straightened her posture and tracked every movement Celeste made with disturbing intensity.
"Keep your eyes forward," Celeste instructed.
The girl complied without protest. She stared ahead, perfectly still and cooperative. Celeste clicked on a small flashlight and directed the beam into the girl's left eye, then her right. She leaned in close enough that her hair fell across her cheek. Her forehead creased as she concentrated on what she observed.
"Pupils are responding normally," she muttered. "No sensitivity to light. No swelling."
