The hallway stretched endlessly before me, each step echoing against marble floors like a funeral march. Isla walked silently behind me, her footsteps softer but somehow heavier with unspoken worry. My heels clicked rhythmically, marking the countdown to my departure from everything familiar.
Sunlight poured through the open front door ahead, harsh and unforgiving. The black sedan waited in our circular driveway like a sleek predator, all gleaming metal and tinted windows. The kind of car that whispered wealth and danger in equal measure.
Two pack sentinels moved efficiently around the vehicle, loading my belongings into the trunk. Their faces remained stoic, professional. No one dared meet my eyes. Even the staff knew this wasn't a celebration.
