Kaelen's POV
I was a complete fool.
The realization hammered through my skull as I stood frozen in the corridor leading to my bedroom. My arm hung suspended mid-air, knuckles half-curled as though preparing to knock on some invisible door. But there was nothing there except the weight of my own stupidity.
Jaxson had warned me. Told me to think twice before opening my mouth. To consider that perhaps my burning suspicions stemmed from somewhere deeper, somewhere I refused to examine.
What did I do instead?
I marched straight to Genevieve and hurled my accusations like weapons.
The expression that crossed her face when those words left my mouth. How her entire frame went rigid. The sharp crack of her hand connecting with my cheek still throbbed against my skin.
I had earned every bit of that slap.
I deserved far worse.
