Genevieve's POV
Sharp knocking dragged me from the depths of sleep. I bolted upright, completely disoriented as golden sunlight poured through my bedroom window. Morning had already arrived.
Kaelen immediately flooded my thoughts.
Had he returned safely? Was he alright? The previous evening had left him completely shattered when he couldn't sense Lyra through their mate bond. I had witnessed him in such a vulnerable state before, so exposed and terrified, unraveling completely before my eyes.
Another round of knocking interrupted my racing thoughts, more insistent this time.
"Who's there?" Sleep made my voice hoarse and scratchy.
"It's me."
Damn. Julian.
I threw off the covers and padded to the door. When I pulled it open, he stood there dressed in clean clothes, a small travel bag hanging from his shoulder. He appeared completely put together and composed, nothing like the blood-covered wreck I had helped off my floor hours ago.
"You're leaving already?"
