Lyra's POV
A harsh laugh escaped my lips before I could catch it. The sound cut through the quiet morning air, sharper than I meant it to be. But I didn't apologize for it.
"The Omega pack," I said, letting the words hang between us. "The one that got wiped out completely."
Rowena gave a slow nod, her expression growing heavier.
"I imagine you know how that story usually gets told," she said quietly. "My husband was one of the Alphas the King and Queen ordered to clean up that situation."
I did know the story. Everyone did. It was the kind of tale that got passed down at family dinners and pack gatherings, always told the same way. A lesson wrapped in tragedy. A warning about what happened when wolves tried to break the rules that kept our world in order.
