Chapter 93: The Torn Veil and the Crown of Fire

The bone horn emitted its final bellow. The sound did not fade; it was devoured by the gravitational tension that had settled in the center of the coliseum.

The immense platform of raw obsidian, forged specifically to withstand the apocalypse, was a perfect black mirror two hundred meters in diameter. At the northern end, Kael Morningstar, the King of the Vanguard. His Stage 4 aura, hyper-condensed by primordial alchemy, distorted the sunlight. At the southern end, Violeta Morningstar, the Princess of Winter. Her body was enveloped in the cyan and silver aura of the Lunar Frost Waltz.

There were no final words.

¡DOOONG!

The gong sounded, and reality collapsed.

Kael was the first to attack. He injected his magma Qi directly into his boots and activated the [Ignimbrite Slide].

He didn't run; he skated violently across the obsidian. The black stone beneath his feet melted instantly, leaving a glowing trail of boiling lava. The air around him warped from the heat, leaving a wake of dense, black smoke.

Violeta, watching the Sovereign's frontal charge at projectile speed, did not retreat. Her pale cyan aura flowed into the ground, crystallizing the obsidian into ice lotus flower patterns with every step she took. The sound around her became muffled.

Kael braked sharply five meters from Violeta. He dug his heels into the jade, generating an explosive halt that launched a wave of boiling magma splatter straight toward the Princess's face.

Violeta raised her rapier, creating a thin sheet of frozen space in front of her.

[Absolute Void Mirror].

The magma wave crashed against the sheet of dark ice. The drops of boiling lava did not cool; they became trapped in stasis. The splatter stopped in mid-air, sinking into the mirror as if it were thick gelatin before freezing completely.

Taking advantage of the temporary shield of his own trapped magma, Kael unsheathed the Whisper of the North.

[Phantom Gale Slash].

The world fell silent. The click of the scabbard vanished. Violeta only saw a massive silver flash cutting the Absolute Void Mirror in half, shattering the sheet of space and aiming for her throat.

Violeta didn't try to block. Her body compressed inward.

[Bridge Between Worlds].

She vanished in a blink, leaving a matte black trail where Kael's sword had just passed.

She reappeared a millisecond later, ten meters behind Kael, and launched a thrust at his back.

Kael, guided by pure battle instinct, did not turn around. He flowed magma down the blade of his sword, raised it above his head, and spun it behind his back.

[Polished Obsidian Shield].

The liquid magma flared and solidified in a millisecond, forming a curved barrier of jet-black volcanic glass.

Violeta's rapier, enveloped in the frost of her Icy Blood Seal, impacted against the obsidian.

¡CRACK!

The clash of extreme temperatures shattered the shield. The obsidian burst into a thousand sharp splinters that flew toward Violeta, forcing her to retreat and twist her body with the grace of the Lunar Frost Waltz to avoid being riddled by volcanic shrapnel.

Kael turned around, his sword smoking.

"You can't assassinate a volcano from behind, Violeta."

Violeta did not reply. Her heterochromic eyes glowed. The ground beneath her was covered in icy mist.

[Reflection of the Moon on Ice].

Her body seemed to flake away. Three identical Violetas, made of dark, translucent ice that refracted the sunlight, detached from her and surrounded Kael. They emitted a faint lunar glow that made perception dizzy.

Kael watched the four figures move in circles around him.

Tangible illusions. If I attack the wrong one, the explosion will freeze my arm, the Sovereign's mind calculated.

Kael closed his eyes and synchronized his breathing with his Sea of Consciousness.

[Slash of Doubt].

The blade of the Whisper of the North emitted a constant, pale white glow, clearing the visual distortion around the sword. Kael launched a horizontal slash that traced a 360-degree arc, releasing particles of silver light that looked like silk threads.

The silent cut passed through Violeta's three frost images.

The illusions did not detonate; they vanished like broken glass, erased by the conceptual slash.

The real Violeta, exposed, did not hesitate.

She propelled herself forward, her rapier leaving a trail of liquid silver light.

[Icy Midnight Slash].

She launched a shockwave in the shape of a crystal crescent moon. The wave traveled toward Kael, attempting to turn everything in its path transparent and rigid.

Kael, his sword still glowing from the Slash of Doubt, injected all the magma in his body into the tip of the blade. The metal turned translucent, showing the Qi flowing like golden blood. The air around his sword began to burn.

[Fragmented Core Thrust] empowered by his Intent Seed.

Kael launched a straight thrust directly into the ice crescent moon.

The tip of the sword clashed against the icy shockwave.

The conceptual edge of Kael's intent severed the Qi flow of Violeta's technique. The crescent moon cracked, and the magma accumulated in Kael's blade detonated inward.

The crimson explosion shattered Violeta's technique and launched a cone of black fire and lava straight at the Princess of Winter.

Violeta, caught in mid-air, did not use her Bridge Between Worlds; she had already used it once, and saving the second jump was vital.

[Step Between Worlds].

Her body desynchronized from physical reality for one second. She blurred, three echoes of her body vibrating.

The cone of black fire and lava passed through her translucent body. The impact area on Violeta's stomach glowed with a spectral blue, the lava flowing through her as if hitting television static.

Kael, seeing his lethal attack had caused no physical damage, did not stop. He seized Violeta's second of intangibility, when she could not attack without breaking the technique.

He activated his [Ignimbrite Slide] again. He skated violently toward Violeta's landing spot, leaving another river of magma in the arena.

The Step Between Worlds ended with a sharp snap. Violeta became solid again, the ringing in her ears distorting her balance for a fraction of a second.

Kael was a meter away.

He launched a brutal vertical slash, channeling his absolute authority.

[Sovereign's Slash].

The Whisper of the North was surrounded by a dark golden aura. The slash descended like a line of solid, heavy light, designed to ignore any physical or Qi barrier.

Violeta knew the Absolute Void Mirror would be useless against the Sovereign's Slash; Kael would cut right through the halted space.

And she didn't have time to charge her spatial annihilation technique.

If she couldn't block, she would have to break Kael's stance.

Violeta struck the obsidian platform with the palm of her free left hand.

[Reality Fragmentation].

The space beneath Kael shattered into pieces of fractal ice. Floating ice polygons emerged from the ground, breaking the physics around Kael's legs. The Sovereign felt his body yanked in different directions, throwing off his balance by millimeters, and the extreme cold tried to drain his magma Qi.

That millimeter imbalance saved Violeta's life.

Kael's Sovereign's Slash, aimed to cleave her skull, descended off course. The solid light blade tore through Violeta's left arm, ignoring the dark blue armor and the protective Qi layer.

The sword passed through flesh and bone as if they didn't exist, leaving a clean cut, but it didn't amputate the limb.

Violeta stifled a cry of pain, backpedaling rapidly, her left arm bleeding profusely.

Kael, his right arm numb from the enormous amount of will channeled into the slash, breathed heavily. The Reality Fragmentation had partially frozen his boots, and he had to emit a pulse of magma to free himself from the fractal ice.

They locked eyes again. The arena was now scarred by rivers of lava, fractal ice, and vitrified craters.

Violeta's aura darkened. Blood dripped from her wounded arm, but her face was an inscrutable mask.

She wasn't going to use illusions or attrition anymore. She was going to erase his coordinates.

Violeta raised her rapier with her intact right arm. The air around the blade left a trail of black static.

[Coordinate Zero Slash].

She launched the cut into the air from ten meters away.

Kael felt the mortal danger born directly upon his skin, ignoring the distance.

A line of absolute darkness, surrounded by snowflakes suspended in time, opened over the Sovereign's chest. The spatial fissure tried to tear his body apart.

Kael didn't try to dodge; it was impossible to dodge a wound born upon you.

He injected the entirety of his immense Stage 4 core outward. His entire body became incandescent.

The immense pressure of his magma and his biological density forced to the extreme resisted the spatial collapse. The black fissure cut through the top layer of his skin and muscle, leaving a perfect black line sealed by ice crystals on Kael's chest, preventing its regeneration. The agony of having a portion of his body phased out of space made him roar.

But he didn't fall.

Kael used the pain as fuel.

He gripped the Whisper of the North with both hands. His right arm burned with orange-gold veins, the aftermath of forcing his sword intent.

"You don't have enough space to hide, Violeta!"

Kael injected everything he had left into his final technique.

The Whisper of the North vibrated with the roar of a volcano about to erupt.

[Fragmented Core Thrust - Complete Sword Intent].

Kael's sword disappeared under a flow of white-red light. The weapon ceased to be a physical object; it became pure incandescent will.

He launched the thrust.

The slash didn't need to touch Violeta physically. Kael's will projected a colossal magma slash that tore through the obsidian platform, splitting the arena into two boiling halves. A line of black fire was drawn in the air, traveling at the speed of thought toward the Princess of Winter, designed to burn her soul and sever her Qi.

Violeta, seeing the white-red light threatening to incinerate her existence, knew the Step Between Worlds would be useless. If that technique touched her phased form, her soul would burn in both dimensions. And her Bridge Between Worlds had already consumed its safety quota; a third dimensional jump would cause an incapacitating cerebral hemorrhage.

Violeta didn't flee. If he was throwing his soul, she would throw the end of the universe.

She injected all her Stage 4 Qi, the Lunar Shroud, and the absolute cold of her core into the single point of her rapier.

She exhaled a dense breath that froze instantly in the air of the boiling arena. The rapier in her hand vanished completely, leaving only a hilt wrapped in a vortex of black snow.

[Ultimate Execution: End of the Spatial Path].

Violeta launched the thrust.

The world lost its color. Kael's fire and the arena's ice turned a sepulchral black and white for a single second.

A line of fractal frost connected Violeta's hilt directly to the center of the white-red light rushing toward her. There was no physical travel; the distance was erased.

Violeta's spatial thrust collided head-on with Kael's magma and sword intent slash.

The center of the clash didn't explode immediately. The black fire of Kael's intent fought violently against Violeta's absence of existence. The heat tried to burn space; the space collapsed to suck in the fire.

The pressure became critical. The entire arena cracked, the two hundred meters of obsidian shattering into a thousand pieces under the tectonic force of the mystic stalemate.

And then, the dimensional fabric gave way under the simultaneous impact.

The silent implosion of the End of the Spatial Path and the expansive detonation of the Core Thrust occurred in the exact same microsecond.

A shockwave of diamond dust, white ash, and crimson light swept the obsidian platform. The force was so overwhelming that everything within a fifty-meter radius was pulverized to the molecular level. Previous craters were smoothed out. Stalagmites were erased.

The physical impact threw both combatants in opposite directions.

Violeta was launched south, rolling through the debris like a broken doll. Her right arm, which held the final technique, was covered in obsidian-colored frost creeping up to her shoulder, leaving it useless, broken, and numb. Her eyes were a solid white color, emitting a trail of cold vapor, unable to see the world for the next few minutes due to the aftermath of erasing space.

Kael was thrown north. The recoil of his Core Thrust and the void wave burst the blood vessels in his arms. The Whisper of the North fell from his hands for the first time in the entire battle, stabbing into the ground several meters away. Kael slammed against the shattered containment wall, coughing up boiling blood. His chest area, grazed by the spatial collapse, was covered in diamond dust, and he felt a paralyzing cold trying to extinguish his core.

The dust settled slowly.

Absolute silence, broken only by the sound of falling stones, reigned in Skull Rock.

Violeta Morningstar was on her knees, blind from the technique, her right arm paralyzed by black frost necrosis, and her left arm bleeding from the Sovereign's slash. She was broken. She had crossed the limit of her bloodline in the Origin Realm. She tried to stand, but her body didn't respond.

Kael Morningstar slumped against the stone wall, disarmed. His arms hung limply, the golden blood of his Qi seeping through his wounds. His Sea of Consciousness was dry, aching from extreme exhaustion. His lungs burned.

They looked at each other from a distance, across the arena that was now as flat and smooth as a plate of ash. The blind deity of space, and the immobile god of magma. They had both unleashed the apocalypse, and they had both survived.

Kael gritted his teeth. If he couldn't use his sword, if he couldn't use his fire, he would use his flesh.

He dug his shoulder into the stone and, with a horrific crack, forced his right leg to push off the ground.

The King of the Vanguard peeled himself from the wall. Staggering, dragging his feet through the ash, he took a step toward the center of the arena. Then another.

Violeta heard the footsteps. Her white, useless gaze fixed in the direction of the sound. She knew she couldn't stop him. Her rapier was gone. Her arms wouldn't obey her. Her technique had failed to erase his physical body.

Kael reached where Violeta knelt.

The Sovereign looked down at her. Bleeding, out of energy, unarmed. But standing.

Kael raised his heavy foot, intending to deliver a final physical kick that would send the Princess of Winter into unconsciousness.

But Violeta, sensing the vibration of the attack, and refusing to be struck down by the King she had been so close to destroying, let her own body fall to the side.

Her head touched the gray ash. Her consciousness, exhausted by the dimensional overload, finally shut down. She sank into a swoon on her own terms, before the Sovereign could land the blow.

Kael stopped his foot inches from her face.

He looked at the Empress of the Void, unconscious, fallen before him.

The Sovereign let his arms drop. His knees threatened to buckle, but he forced his spine to remain straight. He breathed in the ozone-laden air, looked toward Samael Morningstar's dark box, and simply stood there. Standing in the center of annihilation.

The herald's horn erupted into a wild scream, opening the floodgates of madness in the entire stadium.
